VIDEO: Protesters call Lakeview church a 'cult'

Saturday, a small, but vocal group of protesters, were gathered outside a North Side, Lakeview neighborhood church.

According to the demonstrators, the Church of Scientology at 3011 North Lincoln Avenue, is a "cult" and should not be granted tax exempt status.

The group also accused the church of "destroying families".

  1. Lakeview, Edgewater, Rogers Park, Uptown, Lincoln Park, Chicago..... where ignorant freaks and wierdos (trying to outdo each other) from across the globe converge.

This lakefront could/should be a nice place to live. They usually are anyplace else in the universe.

Gun ban with shootings all over. Diversity with a hatred of White men beyond reproach.

Progressive, liberal, Starbucks, "green", trendy ........with no bottle return law.

    So that's MY point!

  2. "Tax exempt status" is in question, while an unusually high percentage of the businesses along the lakefront are "cash only" and the workers certainly aren't paying taxes on that cash they rake in, "You're a FOOL if you're reporting that", said one bartender. Tax evasion, crime, no police......see the correlation here?

Pay with credit/debit card only. Cash-only business? Boycott.

  3. You're BOTH ignorant. Yes... A cash business yields a higher hourly wage, however, there are NO benefits and no opportunities for an individual to move up in a company.

  4. Sorry.... My punctuation was a little sloppy. HAHA!

  5. We're talking unreported, very high amount of tips (with health insurance benefits included in one scenario). With an hourly wage.

I haven't met one person in Chicago in 5 years along this lakefront that isn't trying to "thwart the system", or the "man" in some way or another.

Meanwhile, keep complaining about your crime, why people having oral sex in the alley behind your home is "just another day" here in Chicago or why lack of loitering laws turn to bloodshed.

My Mother retired from the IRS. I'm not party affiliated but mentioned about these "liberals" here and how we're just not connecting as there is no right or wrong here at all. She replied, "Oh. OH, I know exactly what you're talking about".

The time is coming very, very soon for these people to be pushed in their corner and checked too.

I'm gay and think the gay culture here is warped and is a "cult" too. They've been coined the "gaystapo" by many of us. Leave that church alone. They have their "rights" too.

  6. If you have ever been to Tampa Florida, The Scientology "cult" has bought up much of the Tampa area and many many residents there consider them a cult. ALL the money they bring in is FREE and clear, which many there do not agree with, neither do I. They don't even pay property tax and you should see the buildings they have in Tampa. The "not-for-profit" tax exempt status for "churches" like this should be stripped away or at least be made to pay property tax. Everything is on the backs of the middle class, who get poorer and poorer and organizations like Scientology get richer and richer.
Wake up people, we can't carry the world. Everyone should pay their fair share, not just some.
