VIDEO: Waves on Chicago's lakefront nearly drown joggers, bikers

September's weather went out with a bang in Chicago, and it almost took a few joggers and bikers with it!

Heart-pounding video of people nearly being swept away by 10 to 15-feet-tall tidal waves, was recorded on September 30, 2011, by a NBC Chicago news helicopter.

Several citizens along the bike path near 2400 North Lake Shore Drive, were tossed around, and in some cases, knocked to ground by menacing waves crashing ashore.

According to various weather sources, the wind reached speeds of 50 to 60 m.p.h., that day.

The conditions become so dangers, city officials temporarily shut the area down.
