Positive action is better than no action at, but can prayer really stop the violence in Chicago's most dangerous neighborhoods?

A WGN news report that aired Tuesday, October 11, 2011, follows a group of street crusaders as they attempt to change people's attitudes through religion.

The group is spearheaded by senior pastor, Rick Alanis, of the Victory Outreach Church at 740 West 59th Street in Englewood.

  1. Grow the "FRACK" up - "God" isn't going to stop anything (not even a common cold).

If the people in the neighborhood can't/don't stop the C A R N A G E for themselves, there WON'T be any neighborhood left in a couple of years.

After all, it ISN'T Martians, Eskimos, or Attila the Hun destroying the Black Community - it's your O W N BLACK KIDS whom nobody is willing to "snitch" on.

In that c ircumstance you deserve just what you get.

btw: My Black Azz is WAY G L A D that I live WAY out in the mostly White suburbs - AWAY from the Black Communities MONSTER-AZZED Kids

(Try riding a CTA bus after any Black High School gets out and you'll see what I mean)

Why are blacks so damned lost?! Why do we have to constantly rescue them from themselves?! Every other minority on the planet is able to thrive and achieve despite their setbacks, but blacks are always struggling to survive. What a disappointing race of people.

  4. My pusher who art thou be in the krack house
Hallowed be thy bi**hes and hoe's
As for I am sprung my rock will be done
In my crib as well as in public
Give us this day our daily krack
As we smoke ourselves into a manic frenzy
Forgive us for we have no control or self-respect
Grim Reaper has cashed my life savings check
Thy rocketh and they pipeth restoreth me 4 I and I fear no man
Yea though I walk through the valleys of Harlem, Bronx, Manhattan
Even Nickerson Gardens, Compton, Watts, Ingelwood
Fucked up in Beverly Hills and all those other places
I fear no evil, hence forth my rock m-m-m-m-motivateth me !
I shall move my a$$ thine myself given you cash
Lick your butt and balls for thine have the power to bend over
On my knees with my hands against the wall, for I'll be a sucker
Forever and ever and ever hey man
The rest are the reality of its surroundings

  5. Who cares what you believe. If believing in God helps people become better and overcome a life of crime, then good for them!

  8. Prayer obviously wouldn't heal an amputee...it would give them the strength to continue on with their life despite difficult circumstances.

It gets old when every atheist uses the "heal an amputation" cliche as their trump card.

  10. I travel through the South Side on a regular basis & on every main street there is a storefront church on every block. Many blocks have two or more of them.
It's obvious believing in a fantasy being in the sky doesn't work!

  11. @ Anon 9:41 Your admitting that your faith can't compete in the realm of logic and evidence. Your prayers can't even be proven to "give people strength" to continue on. Anyone of any religion or non belief can "find the strength" its part of human nature. Instead of regenerating a limb why can't your prayers keep all the "christians" in a prison in check? Or all the christian gang members in check? If your prayers or your god were real then it's followers would behave better than the average person and they don't. In fact prisons are full of religious people.
