‘Toxic fumes’ reported in Blue Line CTA subway

A CTA passenger reported “toxic fumes” in the Jackson Blue Line subway station at 328 South Dearborn, around 9:48 p.m.

The Chicago Fire Department, as well as police, were immediately notified.

Officers without the proper gear to protect them from the fumes, were told not to enter the subway.

At 9:59 p.m., investigators determined the fumes were caused by a cleaning solution being used by CTA employees.

In April 2011, Chicago police officer, Kevin Robinson, 42, reportedly died after inhaling cleaning fumes at a Southwest Side police station.
