Wednesday, a man was attacked and robbed in a parking lot at the Southgate Market shopping center at 1101 South Canal Street in Chicago’s South Loop neighborhood.
Around 8:57 p.m., two male black offenders approached a customer in the PetSmart, Whole Foods Market parking garage at Canal and Roosevelt Road, said police.
The thieves attacked the victim and stole his luggage and a computer, said police.
The violent assault left the victim’s face bloodied. One report said the victim was bleeding from the nose.
When officers arrived, the victim was barely conscious.
An eyewitness saw two black men in the their 20s flee the scene in a small, white car.
The vehicle was last seen going northbound on Canal Street.
Investigators said one offender has a heavy build and the second offender is “tall”.
Prior to the incident at Canal and Roosevelt Road, an officer at the House of Blues, 329 North Dearborn, spotted a white Ford Taurus with Indiana plates sitting in front of the venue.
The officer said one of the occupants in the vehicle was a tall black man, about 6’4”.
The suspect was in the company of a heavyset black man and a black female wearing dark blue clothing and carrying a dark blue backpack.
When the officer went to approach them, the suspects jumped into the Ford Taurus and fled the scene.
Police believe the suspects at the House of Blues may have been involved in the strong-arm robbery at the South Loop parking garage.
According to police, the Southgate Market parking garage does not have security cameras.
So when the suspects jumped into the Ford Taurus and fled the scene, did the police jump into their vehicle and chase them??

ReplyDeleteCops were called to the House of Blues to keep an eye on the concertgoers who were leaving the venue.
The officer noticed the suspects, because in his words, he thought they were "up to no good".
Did they at least get the plates?

ReplyDeleteI witnessed this incident last night. They beat this guy to a pulp. He collapsed. SEVERAL POLICE SCOURED THE SCENE. Don't have such a negative view on the police. They do their jobs and many are human like us. No time was wasted the place was swarming with cops. They will catch these nights (iPhone correction ;-))
ReplyDeleteThey need better security in these garages. These savage animals look for weak barriers and attack their victims. They bitch about racial profiling, but you are forced to do that because you are afraid for your life. I know when I see a bunch a blacks I get out of that area pronto.

ReplyDeleteAgain, blame city hall. Police are not allowed to chase a suspect in a car anymore because "it endangers the public". Start writing letters to your mayor and alderman. They are the ones NOT doing their jobs.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all there is a much more disturbing note at play here which is the overt racism expressed in the comments. To suggest that all black people should be "removed from our cities" denotes a lack of historical context, education and perspective.

Also, I am Black, I live in the Southgate Market area, I am a war veteran, I don't do crime and I pay my taxes so why do I have to be subjected to nonsense from you idiots? Who are you to say I need to be banished from anywhere? By any standard, I have more a right to be here than you cowardly dunces who hide behind supposed anonymity.
Whites in this country have a ridiculous sense of entitlement and justify horrible atrocities, like slavery for example, because they are too weak and spiritually vacant to address it.
Some Black people are idiots and will rob you. Some whites will do the same. You racist idiots are encouraging violence without a real understanding of the history of this nation or the any regard for the implications of your comments: white people need to "buy guns"? To do what? Protect yourselves? From who? Stop using this forum as a platform to further your stupid, racist agenda.
I hope the victim recovers and that the offenders are brought to justice. I would also like to see the cowardly would-be klansmen who wrote the racist comments to be brought to justice as well.

ReplyDeleteI find it a bit hypocritical for you to make that statement," hide behind supposed anonymity" since you are "anonymous" as well. Also, put your facts up about this comment,"most violent criminals are not black" because in this city, most of us have been a victim by a black person, some violent, others not so violent but a victim is a victim. I agree with you that some of these commenters are pretty racist with their suggestions, however, I believe it is a right to carry a weapon for protection against the very ghetto thugs terrorizing this city, be they black, brown, red or white. I should have the right to defend myself instead of just standing there and getting mugged, robbed or raped. I would think you would want that right as well.
