A woman was accused of leaving a downtown Chicago hotel without paying her bill.

Police were called to the Renaissance Hotel at 1 West Wacker Drive, near Wacker and State, around 5 p.m.

A white woman in her twenties with brown hair, who was last seen wearing a long sleeve hooded sweatshirt, left the hotel without paying a $900 bill, said police.

Investigators said the female suspect checked into the hotel without any luggage and most of her bill was attributed to alcohol purchases.

No further details are available.

  1. Any hotel I've checked into REQUIRES a credit card when checking in. How did she pull this off?

  2. At a hotel, the desk staff or night auditor is supposed to regularly run reports to ensure that guests are not exceeding their credit card authorizations. For example, a guest who checks in to a $149 a night room would probably have their credit card authorized for $250 to cover tax and "incidentals" like movies, bar/room service charges, mini-bar, etc.

She could have told the bartender to charge it to her room and then the hotel staff dropped the ball by not securing additional authorizations before the guest left.

This is a preventable loss and the hotel staff who was on duty will undoubtedly receive a stern talking to or some disciplinary action.

  3. Hotel Manager, thank you. I knew there was a logical explanation for what allegedly happened.
