Attempted kidnapping at Rogers Park, Pratt Beach

Per a Chicago Police Department community alert, an attempted kidnapping occurred at Pratt Beach, 1050 West Pratt Boulevard.

On July 4, 2011, around 8:45 p.m., a mother and her 18-month-old daughter were walking along the concrete blocks at Pratt Beach, watching the fireworks display.

A man sitting on a concrete ledge, grabbed the woman's daughter and tucked the child under his arm "like a football", said the community alert.

When the child's mother confronted the offender, the suspect said he thought the child belonged to another family, said police.

The would-be kidnapper was described as a black man with a very noticeable gap between his two front teeth.

The suspect is approximately 5'10", 210 pounds, and was last seen wearing a dark blue Cubs baseball hat with the letter "C" on the front, a gray T-Shirt, navy-colored shorts made of swimming trunk material, and white gym shoes, said the alert.

If you think you recognize this description, please contact the Area Three Detective Division at 312-744-8266.

  1. Is that sketch supposed to be of a black man? Hilarious.
This is useless since it happened 2 weeks ago.

  2. Anonymous, I agree. That sketch looks like Michael Jackson and those FAILED community alerts should be released in a more timely manner.

Lol, the sketch shows NEITHER of those things. Kinda looks more like the sketch artist just drew a portrait of someone else in the police station...
