Man pulled from Lake Michigan, possible drowning

A man was pulled from the waters of Lake Michigan around 12:23 a.m.

Preliminary information indicated the man fell into the lake near Belmont Harbor.

However, a subsequent report said the incident occurred at the lakefront near the 3100 block of North Lake Shore Drive.

According to an officer at the scene, the victim's friend said the man was in the water for nearly an hour.

The victim, who was pulled from the lake by his leg, was taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital.

Unofficial reports indicate the man may have died.

  1. The Sun Times is reporting this man died. So sad. It's dangerous to just jump in the lake, especially at night, because of all the rocks.

  2. T., I think he was dead when they pulled him from the water. According to the cops, someone at the scene said the man had been in the water for nearly an hourly. When the detectives were called last night, I knew he was gone.
