Tuesday, June 21, 2011, an estimated 50 teens, described by one source as an African-American mob, robbed the Walgreens at 757 North Michigan Avenue.
According to CBS Chicago, the mob stole bottled drinks and sandwiches.
During a recent press conference regarding the "wildings" on Michigan Avenue, Police Supt. Garry McCarthy said, "I don’t believe that it’s going to be something that we need to worry about long-term. We have to knock this out. We have to knock it out quickly — and that’s what we’re doing."
Yeah. Good luck with that.
If a few more of these happen this weekend, they might regret their earlier statement about beefing up police presence at the Taste...

And why is it "our" job to find them something better to do? i do agree that it's the parent's fault and the kid's fault for running wild like this. people need to be responsible for their own actions, and if they have kids - their children's actions.
in regards to the black community: how do you know there is a black community? is there a white community? I personally care about my block, and to a lesser extent my neighborhood - but that's about it. i couldn't care less about some jackass in lakeview, just because he's white. how is one black person or family supposed to want to look out for another - mentor, teach, keep from going astray - any more or less than you are supposed to look out for a random person you don't know? That said...
it's not just the black neighborhoods' problem, and it's not just the white neighborhoods' problem - at this point, it's everyone's. when tourists can't come into the city without being afraid of getting mugged (or actually getting mugged) or when citizens abandon downtown for the same reasons, it becomes a city-wide issue.
it's easy to complain and moan about these "animals" running wild, but also easy to not want to do anything to help fix it because 'it isn't our responsibility and *I* was brought up right...' that may be the case, but sitting on a high horse and complaining about stuff isn't going to fix the issue. and shooting people is not going to help either. and neither are the cops.
so what does a community do?
It's our "job" to find them better things to do? I never applied for that job.

More importantly, I find this race issue and our history an interesting one. Jews, Japanese, Irish and many other "minorities" were one time oppressed by our society...they were called horrible names, some even put into camps (within the past 50 years, I might add...much more recent than slavery). But, it seems that Jews, Japanese and other previously oppressed groups don't have this issue. Why is that? Why does even the African who recently came to America from Ghana or Burkina Faso or any other African nation seem to treat this community with respect? Why do they go out and get a job or set up their own business? Why don't we hear stories about Jew mobs or "Jap" mobs?
This slavery/oppression excuse really gets tired, especially when its analyzed in a greater context.
Ever since I was robbed by this "urban youths" I carry Wasp spray. I will spray into their eyes and face if mugged again. Sooner or later these "urban youths" are going to target the wrong person and wind up dead. NoWhatIm Saying Jo????

Well, let me tell you MARY MITCHELL, this generation of Blacks is lost. They are the product of broken families followed by being born with Crack/alcohol in their systems followed by a liberal government that allows them to do the things they do because they "feel bad" about what happened centuries ago. YOU KNOW that the older generation (your mother's generation Mary)is unbelieveably upset about what has happened to MLK's dream and all that they fought for to give human rights to black americans. Somewhere along the line the Black youth have lost their way. Finding something for them to do is the least of their worries MARY MITCHELL. How about teaching black youth about a healthy family unit instead of it being okay to abuse your children as you have previously spoken about in your hate rag as being "the black way" to discipline your kids. How about making mothers responsible for taking care of their own kids regardless of whether there is no dad and NOT have grandma take care of them all day while mom runs the streets. How bout making community centers host classes for deadbeat dads to learn how to be there for their kids. You have to stop making excuses for these lost youth MARY MITCHELL. Mr. Pflegar, Jesse Jackson and the like could be such an asset to Black youth if they just stopped being on the defensive and making excuses for their bad behavior. Instead they should be on the offensive and do something about it. The police can't do a thing until Black communities take responsibilities for their Lost Youth. Every time a police officer stops a person from doing bad, we hear the same story...the police planted the gun, he was an honor student, he was turning his life around, the police should have just given him a shot in the foot. If not contained early-on, it could bring about the precursor of martial law which, in itself, could lead to mobs far more onerous than a bunch of inner-city youths gone goofy. What Chicago needs is a strong community organizer. As luck would have it, we've got one in Washington right now that may become available in another year and a half. Think about, Chi-town, over pints at The Kerryman.

ReplyDeleteWent past this Walgreens today and they were boarding up a couple windows on the north side of the store. I'm thinking that Walgreens should hire security guards. And here's a question I have, How the hell could 50 BLACK punks get in that store? Where the hell were the cops who are suppose to be protecting Michigan Ave.? Only saw TWO in front of WTP today. I did, however, count 12 Cops from Van Buren to Monroe today..guess that's my answer!

Anyway, that store that Chicago "loves to hate" in the Water Tower has had gang graffiti sprayed all over it's fitting rooms for months now. More "art" has been added weekly (it's almost as if the store is proud of it and wants it to be seen).
Also, that store has the whole "lock 1/2 the doors" thing going on (so it's harder for them to escape).

Out of curiosity, which are the comments that get deleted? I am reading nothing but racial remarks against blacks.
