The shooting was reported around 7:48 p.m.

One child was shot in the head and the other was shot in the back.

Witnesses said the gunman was aiming at a group of Latin Kings, when he struck the children.

After the shooting, the guman jumped into a purple or maroon van.

  1. GRRRRRRRRR! this is beyond pathetic. Why are these ghetto thugs so full of hatred towards humanity? I think it's time the CPD start making some raids on the KNOWN gang members and searching for ILLEGAL weapons! What the hell are they waiting for?????

  2. T., I seriously broke down during this report. As long as I live, I will never forget the urgency and the horror in that female officer's voice, as she called in this shooting. I am livid!

  4. Just on the news, the children don't have life threatening injuries:)
Also said a CAPS meeting was just letting out when the gunfire erupted. Too bad they didn't catch them but at least the children will be alright:)

Shows you how unafraid these thugs are of the cops. They just do not care whether they live or die, and they certainly don't care if babies are killed.

  7. This happened in my neighborhood. No words can describe how upset I am about this. I don't live right by the park, but I'm close enough that this impacts me emotionally. It's so mind-boggling to even figure out why these two young children were shot. There needs to A LOT of public outrage in regards to this, and I wouldn't be offended if a mass rally was held to demonstrate the outrage the community has. I know that there are a bunch of ticked residents in that area today.

By the way, yes, there was a CAPS meeting being held at the time. It was Beat 1732's meeting. And the way I've heard it described, the scene was totally chaotic when the shooting happened. I thank the stars that I was in Rogers Park in a school meeting at Sullivan at the time of this shooting and didn't attend this particular meeting.

I'm glad to hear the children will be alright. That's the important thing. But still, this shooting is the lowest of the low.

  9. Just on the news, the neighborhood turned out in droves to protest this crime and the CP also showed up in force. There definitely is something to be said with a show of strength:) Think they have a person or 2 in custody.
The 2 year old is home now:)
