Woman reportedly raped in the Loop

Authorities are looking into an alleged rape in downtown Chicago.

Around 4 a.m., a woman told police she was sexually assaulted.

Although it isn't clear where the purported crime occurred, police spoke with the victim near the intersection of West Van Buren Street and South Financial Place - which is approximately 156 West Van Buren.

According to Google Maps, there are several businesses in the area. Including a 24-hour Dunkin Donuts.

The details surrounding the alleged crime were not disclosed.

Police are investigating.

  1. This area is right by the LaSalle St. Metra. It's dark, scary and treacherous at night. Of course, it could be ANYWHERE, CHICAGO in todays evil mentality in this city. Does anyone know why Detroit is empty? All the losers came here. They helped ruin one great city in this country and decided to relocate to another. They're like the locust plaque of 1915 that destroyed everything in their sight.

  2. For some odd reason, there were a lot of overnight sex crimes.

I was hoping the mainstream media would pick up this story so we'd get more details.

  3. Don't hold your breath on that one Timothy. If the mainstream media reported everything you do, NO ONE would visit here or move here.

  4. Towanda, I think you're right. Before I started this blog, I had no idea how many crimes go unreported by the "news".

  5. Timothy-
I've been curious: how do you gather your crime reports? I'm interested in getting more detailed crime reports for my neighborhood group, but don't know how to go about it.

There are several ways to keep tabs on the crime in your area:

    1. Buy a police scanner. But beware, depending on where you live, you may have to spend a LOT of time waiting for something to happen. And it takes a bit of practice before you are able to follow what the police are saying and decipher what it means.

    2. Start a neighborhood watch group. Let your neighbors be your ears and eyes of the community. No one can be everywhere at one time, but if people in the neighborhood are sending you information, it's a great way to keep people informed.

    3. If you are looking for information on a particular crime, contact the Chicago police department and request a copy of the official police report.

    I hope this information helps.

  7. Thanks, Timothy. It did help. I have noticed that some community newspapers have a "police blotter." with a selection of more detailed accounts of crimes. These all seem to be communities outside of Chicago, however--I have a feeling that CPD makes it more difficult to access police reports.

  8. Anonymous, only handful of Chicago community newspapers remain. In some neighborhoods, the community newsletter is the community newspaper.
