The high employment rate among black teens in Illinois
Is joblessness at the core of the flash-mob-shoplifters downtown, the uptick in armed robberies, and the high murder rate on the South Side of Chicago?
According to SJ-R.com, if you're a black teenager in Illinois, you probably don't have a job.
While the unemployment rate among white teens stands at 24.7 percent, the unemployment rate for black teenagers is a whooping 47.7.
The study also indicates that while the unemployment rate among whites and Latinos youths fluctuates with the economy, regardless of the nation's economic health, the majority of black teens are chronically unemployed.
From SJ-R.com:
"...unemployment is more persistent among black teenagers, while joblessness among young whites and Hispanics appears to rise and fall with the health of the economy."

I don't dispute the reports findings but most black teens are unemployed because they are lazy and can barely read! Why? Because education is NOT important to them! That's why no one wants to hire them!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure some black teens are looking for jobs and some have them, but it would seem that many are more interested in anything other than holding a job: hanging out, avenging perceived slights, holding forth loudly in a constant monologue, or engaging in disruptive or criminal activity. I hope that's an inaccurate picture of things, but it certainly looks like that from what I see, hear, and read about. As getting and holding a job require a certain amount of listening, delayed gratification, and living within the particular ethos of a workplace, I can see how many teens (and, it seems anyway, especially black teens) aren't able to bridge the gap between their values and a steady job.
ReplyDeletemost of these unemployed criminals were raised by single mothers who scammed and cheated their way through the welfare system. so living off the government and stealing from others is all they know!
ReplyDeleteIf you can't read the application, how are you suppose to fill it out to get a job? The key to getting out of the ghetto is guiding PARENTS and an EDUCATION!
ReplyDelete"Is joblessness at the core"? Answer: No! These bangers do it for the excitement, for the adrenaline rush. It's a sport. The black teens who have an interest in working usually do so. Most jobs the teens get don't require much in the way of reading or math skills so that's not the barrier. I've discovered one little fact of life, and that is that those who really want to work usually end up doing so, even if it's not an ideal job. Those who don't really want to work always have a million reasons as to why they can't.
ReplyDelete@Pete,
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree with you more about those who want to work, do work, but, if you can't read or write, how do you apply for a job? These ghetto thugs probably make more money robbing & thieving than they would IF the actually worked a normal job. Plus, they couldn't handle the hours since they "PREY" all night and sleep all day. They simply are the dregs of society and frankly, I am sick of all the excuses the black people throw out there. POVERTY and the economy are not reasons to become urban terrorists. The only people who hold black people down are themselves and WELFARE! I know plenty of educated, working, contributing black folks who FEEL THE SAME WAY!
Pete & towanda, I agree! :)
ReplyDeleteEach of us has free will to do good or evil.
towanda, yes, poverty and the economy are excuses. Outgoing Alderman Freddina Lyle (6th Ward) used those excuses, along with project people in her, after two police officers were murdered in her ward.
The formerly mostly Chatham-esque ward responded, by electing Roderick Sawyer! Hooray! :)
