Alexcia Salsberry shot, killed in Phoenix by stranger; may have been a gay hate crime

Alexcia Salsberry
Phoenix-Arizona -- February 27, 2011, around 2 a.m., 22-year-old Alexcia Salsberry was shot and killed in a parking lot at 5131 West McDowell Avenue, in Phoenix, Arizona. The address belongs to a business called, Discount Tire Co.

Salsberry, and a woman identified by the media as a "friend", stopped in the store's parking lot during an argument. The pair had just left a nearby club.

As the women continued to argue, a Hispanic man with a bald or shaved head, pulled up in a SUV or pickup truck, and asked the women if they were okay.

The woman said, "Yes". Then, the man pulled off and fired shots through the rear window of the women's vehicle - killing Salsberry.

Nikki Robles, the other passenger in the car, was Salsberry's girlfriend. Robles told the press that she believed the gunfire was meant for her, and called Salsberry's murder a possible hate crime.

I believe that because of Robles' appearance, the shooter probably thought Salsberry was arguing with a man, and when he came to the conclusion the women were lesbians, that's when he opened fire.

If you have any information on this murder, please call one of the following numbers, and help get the animal who killed this beautiful young lady, off the streets.

Phoenix police: 602-262-6141

  3. This article was a political strike on Arizona and Arizona news agencies. Willow posted the link to the interview that this article claims "Does not exist anymore". Mr.Fitz, I believe you are the Demented Hanna-Barbara cartoon character.

  4. Willow, thank you for the link to the video. Anonymous, I must have struck a nerve. :-)

  5. It struck a nerve that you used this issue to project your own political views of Arizona being a conservative state populated with demented Hanna-Barbara characters. Next time do a little more research before you go bashing Arizona. Quick Draw McGraw and Bobba Louie might come a guitar smashin on you. Thanks for correcting your article.

  6. That this hispanic man MIGHT have thought she was a man and than pissed off because she was a woman, is why he shot her, is pretty scary in itself and sounds like a hates crime to me. However, maybe this guy is just a killer and they were in the wrong place at the wrong time, BUT there are a lot of HATEFUL people out there, for sure! My next question would be...is he legal or illegal????

Timothy, I don't think you should change your reports because someone takes offense to something you write. We do have the First Amendment in this country and while some people don't like what is written or how it's written, it's STILL YOUR article. People have the right to comment about an article, be it good or bad, but you shouldn't change it for them:) Just my opinion.

  7. Towanda, the ONLY reason I changed it, is because I was mistaken when I said the interview with the slain woman's lover didn't exist. My feelings about the overly zealous conservative hate-mongers in Arizona - still stands. :-)

  8. He changed it because he got busted for using a very disturbing issue to push his bigot political views. Why don't your post your original article and lets examine the main point? I can guarantee it was not about a shooting. It was about Arizona being a gay hating state and not publishing a story involving a gay hate crime. Which he was totally wrong about. Thus, he posted a new article with a completely different view on the situation. You are just a hate-monger for Arizona. Jump on the bang wagon Fritz.

  9. grizz,
You are SO wrong about the CNR pushing "his bigot political views" and so what if he does. This is a "free speech" country, remember? If the ugly hateful Church can get the go ahead to push their political views on people at the funeral of a soldier fighting for even THEIR right to protest, than the CNR certainly has the right to do the same. However, I don't see where the CNR did that. Maybe the CNR couldn't get the original article because the Arizona media killed it. Than you must ask yourself why they did that?

Plus, I don't think this is a new article, this is what I read initially EXCEPT for removing the "Hanna Barbara" references, which I thought were dead on! You live in a hateful state, either move or work to change it but don't call people bigoted who call it as they see it.

  10. We love you Lexii and you are so deeply missed.. AZ did skew this story into something it wasn't, as both victims are very close friends of mine.. Which they both were targeted victims here.. Whether this shot was only out of anger or embarrassment of knowing that the women are lesbian is something only the shooter would know.. I do agree that it is scary to know that there is someone willing to fire a shot with no regard to a human’s life.. No matter the reason.. This was the point that we wanted to have known and is why we HAVE pushed to the media describe what really happened..

Only this single story was aired which was as close to the truth as you can get.. As Nikki is Lexi's partner and was who was in the car with her.. To hear it was related to a 'PARTY' and they were Hispanic women who upset a Hispanic male just hurts everyone around who is seeing what Nikki is going through.. She would never place her love in harm’s way.. Beyond all else it all started over pulling over to look for the phone in the car.. Who hasn't done that before..

There is no changing this state.. Not overnight.. We all just wish this would be viewed as it happened in order to get this man off our streets.. As long as the stipulations of 'GANG' 'CLUB' or 'PARTY' surround this story in AZ the truth will not be heard..

I will end this how I started it.. We love you Lexi and you are so missed.. Until we meet again.. </3

  11. Lexi, even though I did not know you, I see the impact you have made on the mutual friends that we have. I'm sorry that this happened to you, I'm sorry that this man had no regard for life, and I'm sorry that there has yet to be any justice to this hurtful crime. I truly hope that your family knows that you are in a safe place, and that even though no one can replace you; we will all meet again in a wonderful place. For now, I will pray that your killer is brought in and justice is served. Please know that you are thought of everyday, and that Nikki loves you more than you could ever imagine.

To all the folks commenting here, please keep in mind that this girl lost her life because of someone who felt like shooting a gun into a car. I truly believe that your views on politics and the state of Arizona are better suited on a site that has related material. Not on one that includes the tragic death of young woman.

    RIP Lexi
