Driver shot at red light in Chicago, Avondale neighborhood

Early Sunday morning, a 23-year-old motorist was shot at an intersection on the Northwest Side.

Some time after 5 a.m., a driver in Chicago's Avondale neighborhood, was injured by gunfire near the corner of West Belmont and North Central Park Avenues.

According to an Internet search, Alice’s Lounge at 3556 West Belmont Avenue, is steps away from where the shooting occurred.

The victim told police he was waiting to turn onto Belmont Avenue, when he was shot in the right arm and right leg.

Apparently, the injured man drove himself to Our Lady Resurrection Hospital.

No arrests have been made.

  1. Until EVERY neighborhood stands up and breaks the silence, until EVERY neighborhood becomes active in taking their streets back, this will not change. Use those high tech phones to take a picture, call 911, call 311 to get their "markings" removed and last off all, START CARING ABOUT WHAT GOES ON IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD! The CPD can't do it ALL! If thousands of people can fight for their BENEFITS in several states and people can die fighting for FREEDOM all over the world, the least we can do is fight for our neighborhoods!

  2. Towanda, I absolutely agree with you! There will not be change unless EVERY neighbor gets involved. People like to blame their problems on their alderman and the CPD all the time, but WON'T GET INVOLVED. And then there's people like me on my block. Half the block complains about crime and disorder, but then everytime I go to them to try and get them to join a block club I started and get involved, they refuse and except me to do all of it alone. It's my neighborhood also and I will fight to bring change, but I will NOT do it alone. It astounds me how APATHETIC people can be when it comes to stuff like this. For God sakes, you live here too, you pay taxes too, get off your couch and come to a meeting instead of just excepting "community leaders", the police and your alderman to do something! So, thank you, Towanda, for stating this point. You couldn't be more on point.

  3. Thank You Avondale. I hear this all the time from people I know who give of their time to run block clubs. Here in Edgewater, there are many, many people who participate in this community but many who EXPECT everyone else to get it done as well. Still, we do have the fourth safest ward, thanks to people who do participate instead of just bitch:)

Thanks for at least trying to bring your community together. Maybe the Alderman could call a meeting to discuss ways to improve the neighborhood. Try and get some higher ups involved with your efforts. You never know, it might work:)
