Police Chase Suspect Involved in Car Crash Through Edgewater

At 4:45 a.m., several Chicago police officers were in hot pursuit of an offender in the Edgewater neighborhood. I was never given specific information on why the police were chasing him, but an educated guess would be car theft.

The suspect was last seen near the intersection of North Kenmore and West Bryn Mawr Avenues. Preliminary reports suggest the offender crashed a vehicle somewhere on Hollywood Avenue and fled on foot to the Kenmore/Bryn Mawr location.

A female officer, who was chasing the suspect, spotted an open door at 1024 West Bryn Mawr. The officer searched that location, but did not find the offender.

At 5:10 a.m., 911 received a frantic call from a woman in a third floor apartment on the 5500 block of North Winthrop Avenue.

The woman said a man with a gun tried to kill her. The woman’s description of the gunman, matched the description of the man police were looking for. Police arrived at the complainant’s apartment around 5:15 a.m.

The gunman was not there. No further explanation was given for the woman's report.

Police described the offender as an African-American man with a dark complexion, 20 to 25-years-old, and 5’6” to 5’8”.  He was last seen wearing a black and white shirt with horizontal stripes and blue jeans. The female officer who was initially chasing the suspect, said the man was “dressed rather nice”.

Authorities said the perpetrator may be using the name Patrick Hernandez.

  1. There were calls of shots fired (5shots) at 5840 North Sheridan last night around 11:55 PM. One person was grazed. It happened inside the apartment building. The offender fled.

  2. What the hell is going on? Don't these people EVER sleep? How in the world did that guy get into that women's apartment? Locks and locking your doors would be a good thing to do, even in the third floor!
