AZ Shooter Jared Lee Loughner: Charged with Shooting Gabrielle Giffords, Killing others, Inspired by Sarah Palin Tea Party?

22-year-old Jared Lee Loughner has been charged with the shootings of Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.), U.S. District Judge John M. Roll, an 8 or 9-year-old girl, and six other people, including two of Giffords' aides.

Six people were killed. The young girl, who was the only child injured during the shootings at a Safeway grocery store in Tucson, Arizona, later died at the hospital.

At 7:50 p.m. Chicago-time, Dr. Peter Rhee of the University Medical Center of Tucson, announced Congresswoman Giffords was not dead, as previously reported by several Arizona news sites.

Giffords was shot in the head and the bullet went through her brain, exiting her skull.

According to Dr. Rhee, a trauma surgeon, UMC received ten patients as a result of the shootings: One patient died, four were in critical condition, and five patients were in surgery at the time of Rhee's announcement.

I have received reports from a local Arizona news station, that Jared Loughner listed Sarah Palin and the Tea Party movement among his list of people and things that inspired him.

Palin, who has repeatedly used the words cross hairs in her speeches, also published a map that included Giffords on her so-called hit list. A tremendous backlash is now brewing against those in the Republican party who incite and inspire violence through their incessant usage of inflammatory language.

Sarah Palin's crosshairs map.

  6. This is so fricking tragic and so scary concerning the state of this country. Just look at what's happening in Chicago. People are just plain nuts anymore. No respect for human life. Seems the way to take care of something you don't like and the way to get what you don't have, is to shoot someone. Shoot first and ask questions later seems to be the motto of the nuts running around in this country. I don't even know why, if they caught this whack job WITH the gun, they should waste taxpayers money..Just fry his sorry pathetic ass NOW! Like I've said before, HELL IS GOING TO BE CROWDED! WHY didn't someone say something or do something about his Facebook page? This could have been prevented and than a Congresswoman would not be fighting for her life and the other 5 who were killed, would be alive to spend another day with their families. People HAVE to get involved.

  7. I hope the Mama Grizzley is happy now... I guess she got her wish since she wanted to have democrats in the crosshairs... Palin and the tea baggers are truly sick and dangerous

  8. Around the time the health care reform bill was passed, a bill Giffords supported, Giffords' office was vandalized. Police are now wondering if the shooter was involved.

Also, Tucson Police Department said Jared Lee Loughner did not act alone.

According to someone who witnessed the shootings, Giffords seem to be the gunman's target. After he shot the congresswoman, the shooter ran through the crowd randomly shooting his victims, said an eyewitness.

  9. Ray, this a horrible tragedy. I think the entire nation is in shock. I know I am. I am hoping with all my might, that a few eyes and hearts will be opened by this senseless act of violence - and we can come together as a nation and work to resolve our differences without bloodshed.

  10. Sarah Palin predential hopes just went down the drain, not that she would have had a chance to win anyhow, but now......she's doomed. I'm sure that she never meant for anyone to be shot but when there are mentaly unbalanced people in the world all it takes is encouragement like Palin's or Sharon Angle's rhetoric to push them to act...and to believe in their feeble minds that they are doing the country a favor.

  11. His favorite book is Mein Kampf, he targets a Jewish Congresswomen & Judge. Sarah Palin and the Tea Party inspired him to do this. REALLY?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Where did he "list" Sarah Palin and the Tea Party movement as being inspirational?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Somebody is pulling your leg and yanking your chains. Probably not inspired by Sarah Palin. Not only is there no evidence to back this b.s., but former classmates of the perp describe him as "Left wing, quite liberal and oddly obsessed with 2012 prophecy". But I'm sure your blog gets lots of hits for your lies. Nice work.

  14. I do think that, in this day & age, leaders should be very careful what they say OR imply. There are mentally unstable people out there who actually think those leaders are talking to them, calling them to act. Hell, they think the TV is talking to them. Leaders, of all people, should stop this negative mudslinging crap and THINK before they speak. While Palin and many others DO NOT realize what their words do or who those words incite, there just are too many crazy people out there who hang on their EVERY word. It's up to our leaders to put an end to all this violence. LEAD BY EXAMPLE for GODs sake!

But I'm sure your blog gets lots of hits for your lies. Nice work Sorry, but what is stated here is the truth. She has used those words and does have a map with targets on it.
READ MY COMMENT..this is EXACTLY why leaders need to watch what they say. Whether the perp was inspired by Palin is not the point and Timothy did not say he was, simply that Palin has used certain words and had that map. Some mentally unstable people can take that map to mean it's "HUNTING" season. That can be googled anytime.

Which local Arizona news station are you referring to by chance. Been watching the news all day and haven't seen that statement made by any of them...aside from you of course.

Care to gives us proof to back up that statement you made as being factual?

A reporter at KGUN News in Tucson made the announcement that she unearthed information from one of Jared Lee Loughner's social networking pages where he listed Sarah Palin and the Tea Party as inspiration. Regardless of KGUN's findings, we still have Palin's crosshairs map to contend with. :-)

Giffords was among those on Palin's map, which later removed the crosshairs symbols".
If ANYONE thinks comments like this or this map doesn't affect mentally unstable people, than you are just in denial! This is not only dangerous but unprofessional coming from a "leader".

  22. Did the Kos target page on this congresswoman that he deleted today also motivate this nutcase? Did the Democrat redistrict target map do it? No, it was Palin's map and the Tea Party from your sources.

Personally, I think you should reserve your angry for the shooter who ruined so many lives.

Anonymous, do a search yourself and come up with the facts about "Who inspired" that whack job. Many news reporters throw something out there in the early stages of a crime BEFORE they have the facts. I KNOW this to be very true..
Timothy is reporting what he's read or been given. That particular line in this article is what you are focused on? Wow. You have NOTHING to say about the MAP?????

    ReplyDelete
  28. towand, they think they have found a kink in my armor. But I actually spoken with people in Tucson BEFORE I wrote my article. I waited until I had my facts straight before I weighed in. The link between the alleged shooter and Sarah Palin was unearthed by a KGUN reporter. All the name calling in the world isn't going to change that.

  29. Plus Dr. Rhee said that Congresswoman Giffords was indeed alive long before 7:50 pm Chicago time. You are sad.

  31. "Regardless of KGUN's findings, we still have Palin's crosshairs map to contend with. :-)"

Why is that. You can't even prove that pic is related to this story in any way, shape, or form. You don't have an ounce of evidence that shows the gunman has ever even seen that pic. But if you do please post it an enlighted us all.

Also explain this. As you mentioned KGUN 9 as your source for your facts but oddly enough none of the stories on their website that pertain to this subject do not state what you have mentioned at all. Those are explosive accusations you have made and are relating to them so why haven't they publically made them as well.

    ReplyDelete
  32. For those who want to vistit the refrenced new site go here:

    http://www.kgun9.com/

You can see there are no such accusations which would be making national headlines by now.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Everybody knows there isn't any evidence, his social network profiles have been reported on extensively today. Nothing there about SP or the Tea Party. Don't overlook the fact that Rep. Giffords provoked the ire of Daily Kos liberals for refusing to vote for Pelosi for House Speaker earlier this past week. The headline at Daily Kos read "My Congresswomen voted against Nancy Pelosi and is now DEAD to me". this could be taken as a threat, and has been scrubbed from the site. Not before screen captured and google cache captured it though. And last fall she also was targeted (yes, they used that word) by the Kos kids as a blue dog. Apparently she is too moderate for the left wing. May the victims rest in peace, prayers are with their families and friends on this terrible day.

    ReplyDelete
  34. "Why is that. You can't even prove that pic is related to this story in any way, shape, or form"

The photo has crosshairs on it. Giffords' name is on the list. Giffords is now fighting for her life after being SHOT in the head.

That makes the photo relevant to the story. If you are asking me to prove the shooter was motivated by Palin's map and her remarks - that's the prosecutor's job.

    ReplyDelete
  35. The Daily Kos did the same, several times. And they even took it further claiming she is DEAD, just this week. Are they guilty now too? I guess they have to be, based on your logic.

    ReplyDelete
  36. "The photo has crosshairs on it. Giffords' name is on the list. Giffords is now fighting for her life after being SHOT in the head.

That makes the photo relevant to the story. If you are asking me to prove the shooter was motivated by Palin's map and her remarks - that's the prosecutor's job."

No it doesn't. For it to be relevant you have to link it to the shooters motivations. You can't do that.

You doing the old "Fox News" passing off your assumptions as blatant truth. You are basically contributing to that vitriol that Sheriff Clarence Dupnik was talking about tonight by passing off your blatant assumptions as truth.

As it is right now that pic has no bearing on this story because you have no facts or evidence to prove it was used.

Right now you are nothing more than a quai liar trying to exploit this situation for your own political motivations.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I would really like to know your source for this comment, because it seems rather typically Chicago to do anything to besmirch conservatives. Not asking much, just a source

    ReplyDelete
  38. Phil, has the Daily Kos been arrested in connection with Giffords' shooting? Was Kos listed among the people and things that inspired Jared Lee Loughner? Sarah Palin and the Tea Party were.

That information may not be posted on KGUN's website, but the announcement was certainly made.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Sarah Palin and the Tea Party have been arrested in this case? Now that would be breaking news.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Phil, those were two separate questions. Now I'm beginning to see where the problem lies.

Anon, do you really think I am going to give you the name and telephone number of the person who gave me that information?!

If you think you are going to be able to rationalize anything Jared Lee Loughner did or didn't do, you need to step back and take a long hard look at yourself.

  45. "The connection between the alleged shooter and Sarah Palin was announced on KGUN. If they have not posted the video on their site, I suggest you contact KGUN."

Then why hasn't anyone one else mentioned it at all. Maybe because it is all BS made up by you. If it was true it would be on the site as it would be one of the biggest stories of the day being reported by everyone instead of just YOU. As it is you haven't provided one iota of proof or evidence. Just assumptions and blind faith all in the name of your political motivations.

And why we are mentioning your tendencies to report unsubstantiated/unconfirmed things why haven't you mentioned anything Caitie Parker mentioned today on twitter while giving her personal recollections and descriptions of the gunman.

Could it be that her description doesn't scream TeaParty and Sarah Palin and doesn't serve your political agenda you are trying to forward with this story.

    ReplyDelete
  46. That was a FAKE FACEBOOK PROFILE put up AFTER HIS NAME WAS RELEASED. He only had a youtube and myspace, NEITHER which referenced Tea Party nor Sarah Palin. What awful, irresponsible reporting.

  48. Again I say, I love people who hide behind the guise of "Anonymous" so they don't have to worry about what they say. I also love when they pick out a single line in an article and make it an issue and then ignore responses to their comments. I know Timothy to put what his "contacts" tell him, in an article, accurately. You want him to give up his contacts? I see you have no loyalty as well as "no name". Timothy said "I have received reports" He didn't say "I think Palin is connected to this". I happen to agree that the negative political rhetoric in this country breeds the violence created by mentally unstable people and yes, Palin has contributed to that. This is from the Associated Press;
Giffords expressed similar concern, even before the shooting. In an interview after her office was vandalized, she referred to the animosity against her by conservatives, including Sarah Palin's decision to list Giffords' seat as one of the top "targets" in the midterm elections.
"For example, we're on Sarah Palin's targeted list, but the thing is, that the way that she has it depicted has the crosshairs of a gun sight over our district. When people do that, they have to realize that there are consequences to that action," Giffords said in an interview with MSNBC.

During his campaign effort to unseat Giffords in November, Republican challenger Jesse Kelly held fundraisers where he urged supporters to help remove Giffords from office by joining him to shoot a fully loaded M-16 rifle. Kelly is a former Marine who served in Iraq and was pictured on his website in military gear holding his automatic weapon and promoting the event.

Crazy people take this to heart! You think this shit was ok to say or do by our leaders? It wouldn't surprise me in the least bit if these comments from leaders were motivators. This guy was NUTS!

And yet the swan song with you making unprovable statements continue.

One question why isn't it national news yet. By this time it would be old news. Yet nothing..all that we are hearing is "crickets". as far as a direct link to Palin and the Tea Party.

Mein Kampf and Socialist manifesto are polar opposites, remember the German Nazi/Fascists Attacked/invaded Communist Russia...reports were his site was hacked early and this book information, frequently confused as synergistic ONLY by RWNJ's was added to misguide the public, as the shooter was obviously NOT supposed to survive. This guy was seriously disturbed. Read the comments from his fellow students in college. "muttering to himself", laughing out loud in class, banned from his college classes. He was mentally disturbed.

A great question that a real journalist might want to know is why didn't any friends on myspace come forward after his "strange" remarks? He was convicted of drug possession in Pima County. He had been on someone's radar, why was it not followed up?

  73. Where is the evidence of this TV channel, that I gather is KGUN channel 9 in Tucson?

Every national news source I have seen, as well as every investigative blog site and social network group seems to have found his Democrat political connections, and that this act was likely committed out of a sociopathic need for the Obama/Pelosi agenda to succeed, and he blamed Giffords for its failure. If you can't back up this claim, I suggest you retract your apparent lie before the gullible accept it as fact.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Hey, yeah, remember when Kos and those liberals sent Giffords threats and busted up her office after she voted for heath care reform? Oh, wait. That was Sarah Palin's Tea Party goons. My bad.

Let's not jump to any conclusions, though. After all, Rush Limbaugh does say we should be sure to keep a couple of liberals alive as an example. And Ann Coulter specifically stated that liberals should be oppressed and executed, not shot by random vigilantes.

Congratulations to Sarah "Crosshairs" Palin for keeping the fine neocon tradition of eliminationist rhetoric alive. After all, tradition is what conservatives are all about.

  75. Careful who you are blaming... It's starting to surface that the shooter was in fact VERY LIBERAL... Here's an exerpt:

..."He was a pot head and into rock, like Hendrix, The Doors, Anti-Flag," she wrote. "I haven't seen him in person since 2007 in a sign language class. As I knew him he was left wing, quite liberal and oddly obsessed with the 2012 prophecy. He had a lot of friends until he got alcohol poisoning in 2006 and dropped out of school. Mainly a loner, very philosophical."...

The only thing that has surfaced is the alleged shooter is very disturbed.

The bigger issue is, no responsible adult with a far reaching platform, should ever use said platform to incite or imply violence.

Time after time, Palin and others of her ilk, have used their platform to spread messages with a strong under current of violence. That's what you should be focus on.

It's not a debate about his being liberal BUT many of you want to make it into that...Go watch Fox news or Glen Beck and call in your arguments.
As far as "this being a blog"..OMG, it's the title of this blog, it doesn't make Timothy an ABC news reporter, a Tribune writer or editor or a Sun times write or editor..It's his blog that he does in HIS own time. God you people are maddening.

  83. To those of you suggesting that the shooter was left-leaning because of "The Communist Manifesto" being listed as a favourite book, perhaps you should look at the list further.

He also lists "We the living" by Ayn Rand. "We the Living is the critically acclaimed first novel published by the Russian-American novelist Ayn Rand. It was also Rand's first statement against communism."

There was also a statement made by Rep Lopez stating the gunman was also a vet from the Afghan war. That also turned out not to be true since the Army rejected him. The lunatic was never associated with any conservative movement whatsoever. He is a registered Democrat that had major run ins with the Pima College County Police, dropped out of high school and was a noted pot smoking Liberal.

The truth is that he worked for Giffords on one of her campaigns, got disgruntled that she voted against Nancy Pelosi to be the minority leader, and decided to lose it because of this. He was from the left and the Daily Kos got rid of the pages but Hillbuzz.org took screen shots before they conveniently scrubbed this information as the mainstream media horrifically is propagandize this. The mainstream media is horrified right now that the truth is out about this. This is disgusting that in this event, the power elite are trying to run with this. This is serious and we need justice. 105. To the person who keeps referencing the "Commie" books... just to let you know that those books are favored by many white supremacist groups which are mostly anti-government and have no affiliation to the communist party. Which seems to be the same sentiment shared by Loughner. He DID make several statements that echoed the Tea Party's agenda but nothing that would even be considered left. I've never heard of a liberal spout nonsensical babble about gold and silver as currency or state that all Americans should be literate in English (Even though Loughner himself didn't seem to be.) but I've heard these words from many members of the Tea Party/Republicans. In regard to Palin, any speech which incites violence can be considered criminal if the threat of violence is considered imminent. I can't even count the number of Dems/liberals who warned Palin that something like this might happen if she continued her irresponsible metaphors. She continuously used gun related terminology such as: targets, cross-hairs, reload etc. and her map, if anyone else who wasn't in the media, possessed such a map they would most likely have been arrested or at the very least have been looked into as a potential threat. What sane person would reference human beings as targets? Anyway, since when have Dems or liberals been anti-government? Last time I checked, that was the Tea Party and from what I read of his schizophrenic dribble, that is exactly what this guy seemed to believe. --- Mel

  106. The KOS crap...a diarist put up an emotional rant like last week. Obviously unfortunate given what happened today. The diarist, out of respect for Giffords deleted that diary because it obviously looked very insensitive given the circumstances. The diarist apologized for the diary and explained why he deleted it. There is no conspiracy here.

As for the killer, it's difficult to pin down his political ideology. It's somewhat of a blend between extreme right and extreme left. I've always felt when it comes to the opposite ends up of the political spectrum, the very extreme seem to come round in full circle.

His videos and apparent behavior make him out to be schitzo, which is a definite possibility.

    ReplyDelete
  107. I also wanted to add that sadly, Giffords also made a statement against Palin's rhetoric. Her statement is below...

Giffords: "Community leaders, figures in our community need to say “look, we can’t stand for this.” This is a situation where — people don’t — they really need to realize that the rhetoric and firing people up and, you know, even things, for example, we’re on Sarah Palin’s targeted list. But the thing is that the way that she has it depicted has the crosshairs of a gunsight over our district. And when people do that, they’ve gotta realize there’s consequences to that action."

  108. Are we to believe that The Daily KOS called for attack by bow and arrow on districts (not people) in 2008? Keep digging, Tea Party.

  109. Anon. (at least one of the Anon posters).

There is more than one person that has referenced the "commie" books. Loughner, that is his name, is a registered democrat, he hates God and the government (oh and thinks everyone is illiterate but the chosen few). Sounds like an idiotic Liberal elitist to most people that know how to use their brains. However, I can see how you would twist things in order to fit into your own liberal ideals.

If he was a crazy wacknut, right wing extremist, that posted things about hating the democrats, you can bet the conservatives would acknowledge it and deal with it. The liberals have to pretend that no one in their elitist group of dorks could EVER hurt another person. Wow.. I can think of a few that knocked off those they hated.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Actually, I posted my name "---Mel". <--- That's what that is. Don't confuse extremist and liberals, we are not anti-government. Perhaps you are thinking of Libertarians? We have different ideologies and I may be a liberal but you are the one who is coming off as the elitist. Did I ever once call conservatives stupid or anything like that? I simply stated the exact same things that Tea Party members stated themselves and as for Palin are you excusing her map and/or her calling human beings targets? It seems you just lied when you said that "conservatives would acknowledge and deal with it". I don't disagree that both the left and the right have extremist but I haven't seen any political figure from the Democratic Party that has a map of "targets" of the Republicans or even the Tea Party. The Republicans are even trying their best to distance themselves from the Tea Party. What does that tell you? They are not "acknowledging" those extremist.

Whether he once registered as a Democrat or not has no bearing to what he believes now. He echoes the same statements that Glenn Beck has made on several occasions. Are you saying that Glenn Beck is a liberal? When I first registered to vote, I was automatically registered as a Republican because I lived in a red state at the time. They didn't even ask me and since I was young, I wasn't aware that if you didn't pick a party they could possibly pick it for you (even if they aren't supposed to). Anyway, that certainly doesn't mean I've ever been a Republican or would ever be but I'm sure it's recorded that way. Say what you want but I'm not twisting any words. You are the one saying that liberals are anti-government but the Tea Party members consider themselves conservative Libertarians and they are the ones who are anti-government. That's what the whole party is representing. You know, the Boston Tea Party? Rebellion against the government. Does any of this sound familiar to you? These are taken straight from the Tea party site: "Constitutionally Limited Government", "As the government is of the people, by the people and for the people, in all other matters we support the personal liberty of the individual, within the rule of law." If anything the Democrats/liberals have been accused of being Socialist so I'm not sure where you get the idea that mainstream liberals are anti-government, just as mainstream Republicans/conservatives are not anti-government. I feel that I'm pretty left but defiantly not an extremist but you certainly sound like you are since you seem be resorting to name calling. --- Mel

    ReplyDelete
  113. @ The Gonzo Mama,

You're so right, stating that one should defend oneself against those who would attack you, is the same as making targets out of specific people simply because they disagree with you.

That hyperbole is not even comparable to the blatant rhetoric that Palin has used because even if he meant it literally (which he didn't), as you conservatives like to point out so often, people have the right to protect themselves but if we were to take Palin literally, no one has the right to take another persons life silmpy because they disagree with a persons ideology.

Honestly, who can say for sure what goes through the mind of crazy people but you can't deny the fact that some of Loughner's words mirrored that of the Tea Party. Does that mean he considers himself a Tea Party member? Only he can say for sure but so far, he has made it clear that he is anti-government and his "target" according to witnesses, was a Democrat who happens to be Jewish. Perhaps he doesn't like one or both but like I said before, some of the statements he has made are the same as those of the Tea Party so it would make sense that people associate Loughner with them.

By the way, I found the link to this site on twitter last night, somebody was trying to push your deranged agenda of lies on twitter to the masses.

I'm sure you probably have a whole bunch of inside sources working in the media in AZ. Or more likely, you just like to make things up to suit your political agenda, Chicago style.

I predict that you will eventually scrub this post as it's so obviously only a left wing fantasy (based on proven lies), designed to incite violence against the Tea Party.

If there was anyone as irresponsible on the right, their headline might read "inspired by Markos Moulitsas Zúniga and the Kos kids" as they gave the orders that Giffords is DEAD for voting against Pelosi.

  118. BTW morons, Ayn Rand was an atheist and was a follower of Friedrich Nietzsche when she wrote "We the Living". Most likely the reasons this sick leftist killed these folks.

    ReplyDelete
  119. @ Big Al,

You do realize that you just contradicted your first statement with your second don't you? If crazy people "hear what they want to hear and project whatever meaning fits their agenda" then stating that Loughner was a "sick leftist" would be moot as well. Also, name calling is always a lovely way to drive that point across, isn't it?

It's strange that you would consider Ayn Rand a "leftist" especially since she was a huge supporter of the Republican party. She may have admired some of Nietzsche's philosophies (if you want to call them that) but she did not agree with them all. I would guess much of the atheist views is what she was a proponent of. That and the fact she was pro-choice are probably the beliefs that differs the most with right-wingers. Beck and Limbaugh seem to think very highly of her work and they even go as far as to recommend them. I doubt they would do so if she was a leftist. Also, Nietzsche was admired by both the left and the right. He was a crazy man himself, literally, I believe he would have been diagnosed as a paranoid schizophrenic if he was still alive today. He had some major mental illness toward the end of his life and I suspect even before that since his writings seem more like rantings rather than what one would traditionally think of as philosophy. Either way, you are way off base with Ayn Rand. She was very anti-communist (which is the running theme in "We The Living") and was very much a proponent of self-reliance and individualism. What leftist do you know that believe we have no moral obligation to others? It's that the very antithesis of left?

  122. Sarah Palin got what she asked for: her website clearly asked that her political opponents be put in the crosshairs. Now, in Arizona, it has happened. It is not mutually exclusive to claim,as Tea Party types are hurriedly doing, that the shooter was deranged, or a loner, or not affiliated with Palin or the Tea Party. The clear fact is that all politicians use words and symbols to move people to action. Sarah used both. You cannot now say that the symbol of putting your opponents in the crosshairs of a rifle was just a metaphor. People are dead. Palin will never apologize but her actions showed her shame - the crosshairs map was hurriedly taken down. Sorry Sarah - too late.
    -John Karbula, Fort Collins, Colorado

    ReplyDelete
  123. Would it be song wrong for Sarah Palin to make a statement saying she meant nothing by it, but would tone down the rhetoric in the future? Would it be so bad if we got back to debating the issues, instead of making metaphoric threats against the people we disagree with? We all know what the purpose of this type of rhetoric is. It's to make a statement that they are willing to fight for what they believe in if necessary. Democrats, liberals, The Daily KOS, or whatever leftist media outlet exists out there, believe in the power of the vote, and to effect change through the Democratic Process that was the very purpose for the Boston Tea Party in the first place. Do you see liberals putting Republicans in their "cross-hairs" now that they lost the House? No, they are going to continue to take their message to the people. Anything the far right can do to blur that message is beneficial to them.

  124. To the "anonymous" commenters spewing hate and name calling, go back to the sixth comment on here, it's mine. READ all the rest of my comments as well. NO WHERE DO I SAY Palin OR the Tea Party was responsible. It would be nice if you retained what you read and not put something into a comment that ISN"T there! I have said over and over again that negative rhetoric can INCITE mentally unstable people to act out in violence. Do I think Palin and the Tea Party are a part of that? No doubt but ALL politicians are a part of it. I have been defending Timothy because I trust his information and DO NOT think he has to give up a source to appease you argumentative people who comment under "anonymous" or anyone else for that matter. Many , Many reporters DO NOT divulge their sources for legal reasons or for fear of losing a valuable source. Give it a rest and stick to the issues..that being a mentally unstable person reading or listening to NEGATIVE rhetoric and the possibility that the TEA Party and or Palin may have contributed to that. ALL politicians need to lead by example and STOP this crap! Palin and the Tea Party included. They are not immune to the consequences of their words...though many of you, with your political agenda rantings, seem to think so..WRONG!
I would also like to add that I have not resorted to name calling or spewing hatred..that's your thing and, frankly, a part of what's wrong with the world today. Name calling is so grade school so grow up. Try reading the first amendment where we can agree to disagree in a CIVIL manner without resorting to the name calling and the spewing of hatred..I haven't done it ONCE...seems the conservative right wingers always resort to that IF someone doesn't agree with them. 130. This is my first time viewing this site. The original post is questionable, and I would have liked to see more sources sited in some of the claims. However, the right's response to this article is staggeringly humorous. The name calling, far-reaching insane arguments and total lack of intellect from the right-wing commenters on this blog is of epic proportions. I wish more people could take the time to read this. I mean, sure, there's a bunch of nutjobs out there who agree with these sentiments, but I want to believe that the more this type of rhetoric spreads through the internet, the better it is for the cause. Not a cause of left or right-wing politics or extremism on either side, but the 80% of us who fit somewhere in the middle of two radical ideologies and truly understand the danger of using martial imagery to control the electorate through intimidation. I have just as much against the spin doctors at The Daily Kos as I do the zealots on Fox News. Our nation's media is mostly a joke, from the web to print to television. And it's because our media has deteriorated in such a fashion that we tolerate and give a platform to violent political rhetoric. So to that I say, keep it up. If you don't think Americans are going to associate the culture of metaphoric violence that has permeated the Tea Party and right-wing politics for the last two years with a tragedy like this, keep spewing your filth. In another two years, the political Dr. Phil will be asking you, "How is that working out for you?"

  132. This is probably the best piece I've read so far on the killer's list of favorite books, and how they tie into this Youtube rhetoric:

"His favorite book list is actually rather good, I must say, featuring Orwell’s Animal Farm, Huxley’s Brave New World, Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass, Kesey’s One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest and Hesse’s Siddharta (as well as Marx’ The Communist Manifesto and Hitler’s Mein Kampf). While these are all masterpieces, they have in common that they deal with the topic of reality perception being controlled by higher powers, as well as the possibility of alternate realities. Loughner in his YouTube videos writes about ‘conscience dreams’, and his MySpace is called ‘fallen asleep’. His talk of grammar being controlled by the government calls to mind Foucault.

The inclusion of The Communist Manifesto on this list has been cited by some as proof that Loughner could not be a Tea Party activist, but since the Manifesto deals with the topic of organized revolution more than it does with imposing a state-controlled economy, I find its appearance on the list not so strange. It also seems that Loughner had came in contact with (campus) police a couple of times, so a picture more or less emerges of a troubled adolescent, who reads stuff that’s maybe a few levels too complex for him. But these are exactly the people that you shouldn’t expose to the sort of militant, violent political rhetoric that, since Obama’s presidency, has been employed by the Tea Party and the Republican right."

The Gonzo mama..I am a comedian on the side..smart of you to figure that out BUT, I have been trying to stop this right wing/left wing bullshit since my first comment and that would be number 6 on your radar. Than, as I've stated before, SEVERAL times, re-read ALL my comments. You madam(?) are also part of the problem in this country. And most of you have missed the point about the name calling, trash talk. Seems you do not know how to have a debate without that..again, part of the problem and sounding more & more like Tea Party affiliates to me.

"Anonymous@7:31; they won't believe you because they want to believe that Timothy is a liar and are not capable of admitting any possibilities. Thanks for verifying this though.

djmepn; I will say again that none of the naysayers commenting here WILL admit to the possibilities that what you, I or anyone else talking about the possibilities of the negative rheteric impacting this mentally unstable person. They will pick out a word or line and run with it as if they were on fire. They will deny, incite, name call and trash talk because in their minds, just like the shooter.."it's there way or the highway". Theirs is the only correct response and comment. Theirs is the correct and right party affiliation and how dare any of us say anything about their perfect party...talk about closed minded people. Read back over all the comments and see who is talking trash, spewing hatred and name calling. That's the state of the country and even after 137 comments, even after "anonymous" from Tucson verified that he heard it as well, they will deny, argue and name call because they think they are so much more superior than the left..yeah right!

I'm sure PHIL didn't even read your comment, which was right above his...figures. They have all the answers.

  141. Can you cite the local tv station that says he lists Palin as an inspiration?

Nothing that is actually known about him would suggest such a thing. He promotes flag burning, calls money unconstitutional because it has God on it, lists the communist manifesto among his favorite books.

    Stop telling lies.

  144. My stepson, Franklin Buchler, who lives in Tucson called me a short time ago and we were talking about this and he said he heard the same thing on KGUN9 and can't find it either. Maybe the station yanked it after it went out to try and stop the tsunami of negativity that was coming from the Palin supporters and the Tea Party supporters. Any one think that may be a possibility??? BTW, he doesn't live very far from where this took place, heard all the sirens, turned on the tv (KGUN9) and continued to watch most of the day yesterday.

  147. This is on the Huffington Post:
This weekend during live coverage of the Tucson shootings the media -- in its rush to beat the competition -- got it wrong over and over again. Sadly, the errors -- including one-source reporting and anonymous sources -- are not isolated cases. In fact, the journalism bar has dropped so low that mistakes of this magnitude don't seem to cause a ripple of frustration let alone provoke anger from viewers or network executives.

The nation flipped from channel to channel Saturday watching anchors and breathless reporters regurgitate misinformation the likes of which could be expected on the 200th local broadcast market channel run by a just-out-of-college news director and intern reporters. These offenders are big, experienced news players beginning with NPR which reported: "U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona was shot in the head and killed outside a grocery store in Tucson while holding a public event, Arizona Public Media reported Saturday."

Seems to back up WHY no one can find the KGUN9 news report.

  151. Nobody commented on Franklin Buchler because he is probably a result of Timmy's active imagination. Some of the anonymous posters here are what is known as "sock puppets". Regardless if a mystery reporter made the bogus claim about Pail & the Tea Party, by now it's crystal clear that that is not true. An honest ethical reporter would update the original article and apologize for spreading lies on twitter and on this blog.

    ReplyDelete
  152. Sorry Phil, but I stand behind Timothy and his statement, which, by the way, had a ? mark after it. Nice that you think Timothy has no ethics and would put a comment up under"anonymous". NEVER happen. You must be new to this blog because you obviously don't know Timothy.
Thank you for using your name though. I think those who continue to "hide" behind "anonymous" just to comment are cowards who want to trash talk BUT don't want anyone to know who is trash talking. I have had people trash me big time and they can do that because I'm not afraid to use a name. Imagine if I used "anonymous"? Just which "anonymous" would they be talking about when they trash talk?

As far as "anonymous" @11:41..Do you really want to pick out a line from something a president said without putting the total context of that statement up? Come on! Do you really want to go there? Who the hell do you think STARTED all this negativity in the first place? Where are his hand picked lines? Truly your party affiliations are showing and therefore, your comment is somewhat biased..ya think?
People interprete what they read according to their own interests and agendas..we ALL do it. I have been accused of blaming Palin & the Tea Party, which I haven't done..not once..why? Because people see a particular word or sentence without reading the context of the whole article and than run with it...thereby misinterpreting what the writer actually said and adding their "fluff" to it. I guess it's true, we cannot debate politics OR religion. Some mountains can't be moved. You naysayers have made your decision so why are we still talking about Palin & the Tea Party?
The issue is this, NEGATIVE TRASH TALK coming from politicians and the MEDIA fed into this guys twisted mind, which he probably INTERPRETED as a "sign" and went out and KILLED 6 people and critically wounded 13 others including the Congresswoman. Our leaders need to start thinking BEFORE they speak and that includes right and left wingers. PERIOD!

  153. Phil, I appreciate that you use your name rather than "hide" behind the guise of "anonymous" so no one knows who's doing the trash talking. Thank you!
I trust Timothy. You must be new to this site to even think Timothy would post under "anonymous" to put up that comment. You must also think the person who posted is a liar. It amazes me how people make judgements about people they don't even know. Just remember that when you "point one finger at someone, you have three pointing back at you".
To "anonymous"@11:41..DO YOU REALLY WANT TO GO THERE? Quoting a single line from a statement without the full context just shows that you picked out words or a line to suit your OWN agenda. Who the hell do you think started all this NEGATIVITY? Where are the words or lines quoted from him? Your party affiliation is showing with your comment and therefore, is somewhat biased. What's the point?
Please re=read ALL my comments, I NEVER said that Palin OR the Tea Party was to blame for this..NOT ONCE!
Give it a rest. The issue is that ALL Politicians AND the media better start thinking BEFORE they speak, crazy people are watching and listening. Some of these mentally unstables take these words as a sign to go out and commit violence against those who the politicians and media have trash talked. Palin & the Tea Party are not an exception to that. They are both part of the world of politics.

I can confirm that a lady in the studio held up a paper screen shot and looked at the camera and said that "his facebook page listed Sarah Palin and the Tea Party". 155. I'm Anonymous@7:31 (Tucson Resident) - People are upset about how this whole thing got politicized, but I'm telling you, KGUN9 was reading off of Loughern's pages where he listed Sarah Palin and the Tea Party as people and things that inspired him. (Exactly what Anonymous@10:42 is describing).

Also,Fox News claimed it had seen a Department of Homeland Security memo which said Jared Lee Loughner, 22, had ties to American Renaissance, which is staunchly anti-immigration, anti-government and anti-Semitic.
I'm only stating what I heard and what I have read so far.

The KGUN9 reporter's announcement was made just as one of the anonymous author's described. The reporter held up a stack of screen shots taken from one of the alleged gunman's online profiles. Then she said Jared Lee Loughner listed Sarah Palin and the Tea Party as some of the things that inspired him.

Inspired him to do what? Who knows?

  160. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/01/10/opinion/10krugman.html. Read the rest of it in that article but here's a snippet:

And it’s the saturation of our political discourse — and especially our airwaves — with eliminationist rhetoric that lies behind the rising tide of violence.

Where’s that toxic rhetoric coming from? Let’s not make a false pretense of balance: it’s coming, overwhelmingly, from the right. It’s hard to imagine a Democratic member of Congress urging constituents to be “armed and dangerous” without being ostracized; but Representative Michele Bachmann, who did just that, is a rising star in the G.O.P.

And there’s a huge contrast in the media. Listen to Rachel Maddow or Keith Olbermann, and you’ll hear a lot of caustic remarks and mockery aimed at Republicans. But you won’t hear jokes about shooting government officials or beheading a journalist at The Washington Post. Listen to Glenn Beck or Bill O’Reilly, and you will.

If this whole page is built on a hoax facebook page, you should at the very least update the story and indicate so. It was a hoax, and apparently both you and KGUN9 now have egg on your face. Do the right thing and stop clinging to what is clearly a lie. I'm sorry if I gave a negative impression of Timothy. I'm not a regular here, I followed a link on twitter and couldn't believe this claim which turned out to be a lie, a complete hoax. I've checked out some of your other stories and agree, you seem to be doing a good job reporting the stories that may have fallen through the cracks of the other Chicago media. I think it's a copout to keep blaming KGUN9. They fell for the hoax and stopped reporting it. Time to at least clarify, in my opinion.

Please. Point of the inaccuracies in that statement. I dare you. Go ahead. Give it a try.

    ReplyDelete
  165. Yeah, I don't believe anyone has once stated this as fact. The only fact is that it was reported that way.

And let's be honest with ourselves. Metaphors for violence are used on both sides of the aisle. This is true, and someone even took the time to make a list of Democratic violent slogans. Good for you. There is no doubt in my mind that the Democrats won't be using that type of rhetoric from here out. And for the most part, I'm sure that it will be toned down by Republicans as well. But we're getting too caught up in words. It's not about what Sarah Palin said, or what Sharron Angle said. It's about an overall climate that has been portrayed and backed up by behavior. The Tea Party has spared no opportunity to let America know that if they don't get their way, they will take this country back, by force if necessary. The signs that call for assassination of the President, people shouting "Kill Him" at rallies, the exposed pistols seen at rallies, all of this points toward a movement that is ready for civil war. There has only been one civil war in America. It started because a lot of people weren't happy with the decisions their elected representatives were making. It's no different now. We live in a Democracy. Until Democracy collapses, there is absolutely no reason for a violent coup, nor is there reason to threaten or even insinuate a threat. The Democrats are far from suggesting anything but peaceful, democratic solutions to our problems. The Tea Party suggests we follow their rules, or pay the consequences with blood. Mentally unstable people are not far and few between in the Tea Party. Many of them are ready to go to war. Palin, Bachmann, Breitbart, Angle and others are not condemning this attitude. They are actually encouraging it, using rhetoric and hate speech to rile them up further. You cannot honestly tell me that Democrats are doing the same thing. Fortunately they still believe in Democracy. I believe most non-Tea Party Republicans do too. I just wish more of them would speak out against this behavior.

Get your minds out of the gutter.

    ReplyDelete
  169. This is from "Philly.com" if you care to read the rest of the article by Ellen Gray, but this is exactly what we are talking about here. News reports, very early on, even said the Congresswoman had died but those statements are NOW NO WHERE to be found..they have been REMOVED! It's completely possible that KGUN9, who also reported she had died, removed the comment that "Loughner was inspired by Palin.." Those of you name calling, accusing Timothy of being a "liar", calling us "morons" and "fools" and are just plain mean in your comments, those of you who refuse to even admit the possibilities and even acknowledge YOUR OWN careless words, need to step back and take a long look in the mirror and decide just what each of your rolls are in this mess. You need to decide what each of you will do to be a part of the solution and not the problem. This country is divided and sometimes hateful, as evidenced in the comments on this blog, I have NEVER seen it this way and I am 61 years old. It's frightening and when I think of the future of my grandchildren, it's even more frightening. Words are more damaging than taking a beating and have dire consequences. MISTAKES were made in the very early reporting of this tragedy, that does not make a person a "LIAR", a "moron", a "fool" or "sad". It does not mean it wasn't said. Timothy shared a comment given to him by someone very early on, several people on this blog have verified that they saw it as well. Whether you believe it or not, is just your mindset. I have NO reason to think they are lying or that "Timothy posted under "anonymous". He has more integrity than that. Just think about your part in the insanity that is going on in our country today and WHAT YOU can do to help change it.
Would anyone like to bet that this comment doesn't get any responses? would any one like to bet that someone will comment without reading it BEFORE they comment?

According to the Associated Press, the report of Giffords' death originated with NPR - which has apologized for the error - and was subsequently picked up by all three cable news networks and by CBS and NBC.

ABC News never broadcast such a report, Sherwood said, but "for a brief moment that went up on our website" in the form of a banner that attributed the news to outside reports. It was then taken down, apparently when someone recognized that it conflicted with ABC News' own reporting, he said, and at a time when Giffords' fate "was unclear."

Did the deranged guy know Palin? Yes? How? Through Palin's politico-sniper (rememeber the crosshair thing?) ideas. America is a gun country, with so many loose molecules flooting on an unstable fluid. this deluded dude was just one of the million loose molecules. People who have nothing to loose will always take to violence. And any thing, be it words or signs, symbols that ecourage violence will be very appreciated and envied by such loose molecules. Who in america does not cherish the word *sniper*, or a symbol that reminds one of a sniper?
Palin with her crosshair, sniper-encouraging symbol, unconciously motivated this sick guy to kill to assassinate. And this is due to poor and unethical leadership on the side of Palin.

  176. Give this to Palin! American leadership need to read this too;

Two types of leadership charisma can be distinguished:

    1) Ethical Charismatic Leader -- Uses power to service others; aligns vision with followers’ needs and aspirations; considers and learns from criticism; stimulates followers to think independently and to question the leader's view; open, two-way communication; coaches, develops, and supports followers; shares recognition with others; relies on internal moral standards to satisfy his followers’ interests and societal interests, and can turn followers into leaders. The behaviours of an ethical charismatic leader include: high self-confidence, competence, serve as role models, communicate high expectations, have strong power needs, engage in effective argumentation and create transcendent goals. The followers look to the charismatic leader to fulfil hopes, frustrations and fears. The charismatic leader creates a sense of adventure and excitement. New visions are seen within the group and widely shared beliefs, values, and goals help to promote the charismatic visions. Example of ethical leaders: Mahatma K. Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King Jr., etc.

    2) Unethical/issue-dependent Charismatic Leader -- Uses power only for personal gain or impact; promotes own personal vision; can lead the led into moral degenerates; censures critical or opposing views; demands that own decisions be accepted without question; one-way communication; insensitive to followers' needs; relies on convenient external/imposed moral standards to satisfy self-interests. An example is what we see in liberation wars, Rambo-type action movies and zones of genocide. Example of unethical leaders abound in history. S. Palin is a current one.

Crosshairs have been used in politics for decades. The Democratic Leadership Committee website published a map with bullseyes similar to Palin in 2004. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee published a similar map in 2010. Palins' map targeted the 8th district and 19 other districts. To come on a blog and anonymously claim that Palin is responsible for some nut, highlights your complete ignorance.

Both sides should tone down the rhetoric for sure, and to call for the right to tone it down again shows a high level of ignorance and ignored half of the problem.

  182. I guess NONE of you have learned a thing from the tragedy in Tucson, you're still keeping the fire going, still trash talking, still comparing one party against the other and still acting like learning anything from this is beyond you. NICE! No wonder other countries see America as a hateful country. Your individual agenda's is getting old. Give it a rest, stop the comparisons, like you were little children saying "mines bigger than your's" and find some PEACE! We are ALL at fault. Time to grow up and learn to live peaceable among each other. This isn't IRAQ!

    ReplyDelete
  183. To Towanda,
    "this isn't Iraq!" meaning America.
Hey! America is Iraq. There are sooooo many Iraqs in America. You know what I mean. America is a war zone. Until you guys see and accept that, then you can start talking for society change. You want to change only the economy and not relationship between common americans. How can a society ever survive only on economic terms, and forgeting the social side. which is exactly what is needed to keep the citizens in harmony with one another. You have lost your way! But to sad enough, you want other countries to follow in your footsteps. It is a pity. Been there, seen it, it is sad that you have to leave that way. We are given two choices on earth; death or life. You americans choose death.

    "You americans choose death"

Not all of us. Many of "us" volunteer for positive change in our communities, in our country and in our world. Everyone likes us when we are helping them to get out of the latest disaster with food, water, first aid, blankets and money. What Americans do then is what many of us do all the time.

  185. This article is only putting more power in the hands of the insane gunman. There is ZERO proof he murdered these people because "Palin told him to".

SOMEONE SHOW ME THE PROOF HE SHOT AND KILLED THESE PEOPLE INCLUDING A NINE YEAR OLD GIRL BECAUSE PALIN TOLD HIM TO.

You're using the blood of the people who died or were injured that day as a means for Palin to lose more support.

This article and those who support it are pathetic and truly disgusting. She did nothing wrong, and she shouldn't apologize for anything. This man was insane. He was a consipracy theorist and had lost his mind due to politics long before Palin had even entered the game.

I personally don't like Palin, but this headline makes me sick. And when I read these comments, I lose more and more faith in my countrymen. My heart sinks every time someone links Palin and this terrorist together.

But keeping pointing the blame finger. That will definetly help the situation. Oh wait, your blames are filled with hot air and only serve to incite more violence. Bravo.

    ReplyDelete
  186. No one is saying that the shooter killed anyone because Sarah Palin told him to, but keep trying to divert this discussion from the real issue.

    ReplyDelete
  187. " AZ Shooter Jared Lee Loughner: Charged with Shooting Gabrielle Giffords, Killing others, Inspired by Sarah Palin Tea Party? " UHHHH, they just said it.

That's EXACTLY what people are trying to say. How else would you link Palin and this shooting together? I'm not diverting anything. I'm putting out there what few seem to notice.

THERE IS NO PROOF. You are using the blood of the victims as a means to bash Palin. That's all.

You KNOW this article is wrong. Every comment I read in response is "the rhetoric MAY have caused; this man MAY have been driven; he MAY have gone insane because of Palin's words". For all we know, he did this just to put Palin in the bullpen again.

All you have are accusations based on speculation. How can any of you believe Palin is responsible?

    ReplyDelete
  188. You clearly haven't read through the comments in this post. Very few have said that Palin is directly responsible, and the ones that have I don't agree with. We are talking about a violent climate in this country that starts with Tea Party threats of "taking this country back" by "any means necessary" and is perpetuated with the violent rhetoric that Palin, Bachmann, Breitbart, Angle and other Tea Party leaders are using to get the Tea Party riled up. No one has even addressed this. Forget about what the news may or may not have said.

    ReplyDelete
  189. Who attempted to assassinate G. Giffords? It is Pal. If you say Lin you are responsible.

  190. djmeph..RUGHT ON! That is what I have been saying trough ALL my comments. That the rhetoric incites people, whether they be sane or insane. Clearly, some people, like "anonymous"@12:33 are missing the point of many of these comments. There is a ? mark after the title of the article..basically asking a question and NOT accusing. People are easily incited and have been throughout history, by inflammatory, negative rhetoric. Hitler and the Viet Nam protests come to mind. It starts with ONE person. We are like cattle/sheep. Ever watch them heading to the feeding area or back to the barn? ONE animal leads the rest and they ALL follow. Just like people. "anonymous@12:33, you are wrong in stating that anyone is blaming Palin for the killing..your comments are inflammatory and are just the kind of remarks that "inflame" other people..ONCE again, IT IS THE RHETORIC. Palin, the Tea Party, conservative talk radio, the news media, be it local, national or cable(CNN, MSN FOX) INCITE people with their RHETORIC and frankly, I am sick to tears of it. Since when is "MEAN" in? Oh, I forgot, it;s called ratings!

  191. The shooter, Loughner certainly was a strange and disturbed individual (and there are millions of them in America) who demonstrated a totallack of ability to act rationally in both time and place. For sure, the borderline insane and insane can still be influenced by violent rhetoric. But was Loughner so influenced?
I have no f*cking idea! But Loughner is still alive, we should ask him, and even search his computer.

Regardless, almost everyone agrees that the heated political rhetoric does need to be addressed. If Loughner was not influenced by "vitriol" it does not mean that others will not be. Indeed, the Secret Service complained about Sarah Palin's rhetoric during the 2008 election as then-candidate Obama received an increasing number of death threats.

Glenn Beck and O'Reilly have both complained about the death threats made toward them too. Both now require around-the-clock protection. If the rhetoric of Palin and her tea thing is not that bad, then it is hard to imagine what "bad" would be.

    I am talking a a far distance.

    ReplyDelete
  192. But how far can rhetoric go?
The prestige of those using the violent rhetoric is higher on the right, and the frequency and degree of the "vitriol" is more severe and provoking. It sways deluded individuals into a death match game.

Richard Behney, a Tea Partier running for Evan Byah's (D-IN) seat in 2010 said,

"We can get new faces in. Whether it's my face or not, I pray to God that I see new faces. And if we don't see new faces, I'm cleaning my guns and getting ready for the big show. And I'm serious about that, and I bet you are, too. But I know none of us want to go that far yet, and we can do it with our vote,"

Republican candidate Sharon Angle, running against Senator Harry Reid in the 2010 election, stated,

"People are really looking toward those Second Amendment remedies, and saying, my goodness, what can we do to turn this country around? I'll tell you, the first thing we need to do is take Harry Reid out."

Rep. Michelle Bachmann (R-OH) stated in the middle of the energy bill debate that,

"I want people in Minnesota armed and dangerous on this issue of the energy tax, because we need to fight back. Thomas Jefferson told us having a revolution every now and then is a good thing. And the people -- we the people -- are going to have to fight back hard if we're not going to lose our country."

Rep. Greg Harper stated in a POLITICO interview that,

"We hunt liberal, tree-hugging Democrats, although it does seem like a waste of good ammunition."

Radio talk show host Joyce Kaufman, who nearly became Rep. Allen West's (R-FL) chief-of-staff, stated,

"I am convinced that the most important thing the Founding Fathers did to ensure me my First Amendment rights was they gave a Second Amendment, and if ballots don't work, bullets will."

Anne Coulter wrote in her book Slander,

"Liberals hate America, they hate flag-wavers, they hate abortion opponents, they hate all religions except Islam, post 9/11. Even Islamic terrorists don't hate America like liberals do."

An insane person, listen to the above will actually think that the leaders are talking to him personally, and telling him to buy a gun and go and kill. Do not play with a man's mind. There is alot we, and psychologists for that matter don't yet know about the mind.

  194. And if Behney, Bachmann, Harper, Caufman, Coulter or any of their followers make good on these threats, how is that any different than what this shooter did? We have no choice but to take those threats seriously.

  195. To keep pushing the canard that the Tea Party is responsible for a atmosphere of hatred shows that you are either really stupid, or a far left partisan hack. It's called projection, as the facts prove that the left are the merchants of hatred in 2011.

Here is a really good article on this topic, from Roger Simon, former leftist.

    quote
The right wing is the supposed source of all violence and violent rhetoric. Of course, we know that’s not true and of course there hasn’t been any real right-wing violence, none whatsoever associated with the tea party movement. It’s all a charade.

But the left persists in believing it. Well, not entirely. Some are following an Alinskyite trail of deception. But a good percentage — as this past few days have demonstrated as never before — are genuinely convinced they are surrounded by a bloodthirsty mob of semi-illiterate rednecks out to polarize the country.

This is one of the more clearcut demonstrations of mass projection I have seen in my lifetime.

The liberal intelligentsia of our society may not be as sick as Jared Loughner — that would be hard — but they are exhibiting a depth of neurosis that borders on a collective personality disorder.

  196. Look, Phil. I would love some re-assurance that the Tea Party is not out to start a civil war if things don't go their way. I really do, I want to live in a country where I'm not fearful for the way I vote. I also agree more with Ron Paul than I do Barack Obama, but the Tea Party has ventured so far away from its original purpose that it's not even worth supporting anymore. During the election, Obama was essentially forced to condemn the words of Reverend Wright for saying "God damn America." So why aren't Tea Party politicians and Republicans held to that same standard? Why won't Sarah Palin denounce the people that say they are going to take up arms and shed blood if they don't get their way? Why won't she denounce Sharron Angle for saying we need 2nd amendment remedies to our nation's problems? Why doesn't she speak out against the people who call for Obama's assassination? The reason is because those are her constituents. She is counting on them for votes, both for her and the candidates she supports. Lay with dogs, and you get bit. You can deny that the Tea Party promotes violence all you want, but that's not going to make these empty-handed threats go away. And you can try to spin this tragedy any way you want, but people are going to continue to associate this shooting with the Tea Party, because there is no difference between what Jared did, and what the Tea Party has been threatening to do for two years.

  198. This gun shooting has become an american culture. it is not strange, given they kids are raised in america. be it kids from single parents or from two parents.
there is something seriously missing in american society, for true. there is a serious moral, and social vaccuum in america. how on earth can a people choose to believe ONLY in money, and all what money can buy. Money has become the new God in america, for a long time now. You can not negate God and believe only in money. Fot those americans who claim to go to church, they see the church as a kind of association where they can meet people, talk to people. No, that is not why we go to church.

Until the last 50 years or so, Western man believed the Creator put us here on this magnificent globe we call earth, and that we, alone among all creatures, were given the ability -- and destiny -- to choose between good and evil.

Today's cultural elite, including those in the healing arts, basically don't recognize the existence of God, morality, good and evil, righteousness and sin. In other words, they don't understand what life is all about -- that each and every one of us on this earth is appealed to, from just beyond the visible world, by a dimension of good and a dimension of evil, which we call Heaven and Hell. And that by heeding the wrong impulses we get into serious trouble.
