31-year-old Tamika Spann admits her brother, 23-year-old Xavier Ferguson, had a police record. But Spann doesn't believe her brother would have ever fought with police, and she certainly doesn't think he deserved to be shot and killed during a traffic stop.
According to police reports, Xavier Ferguson and 5 to 6 other men, were pulled over this morning around 1:30 a.m. on the 5200 block of West Kamerling Avenue, after officers spotted them throwing things out of their van.
So far, none of the news reports indicate what the suspects were allegedly tossing from their vehicle, or if any illegal items were recovered.
Witnesses said police chased the van and when the vehicle came to a stop, the occupants jumped out, and tried to flee the scene. A few eyewitnesses claim police fired multiple shots the moment the men exited the van.
Here is where things get interesting.
The official police report indicates that Xavier Ferguson fought with police, tried to disarm an officer, and was subsequently shot and killed. The report also states that only one shot was fired. A claim that boldly contradicts several witnesses and what a doctor at Mount Sinai Hospital allegedly told Ferguson's sister.
Spann said a physician told her, her brother was shot twice in the chest.
I don’t know. Something about this story doesn’t pass the smell test. I'm sure we'll be hearing more about this shooting, in the days to come.

I doubt you'll hear more about this story. It's almost identical to the shooting of Joshua Madison by CPD on November 2, 2010. Joshua was also a 23 year old black male shot multiple times after an attempt to pull over a vehicle he was driving. Officer claims he was drug. Witnesses say he was not. This should not be the norm.
ReplyDeletei guess the cops are shooting people for littering now.
ReplyDeletewow! i still cant belive this, i grew up in the same neighborhood as the victim, its very bothering that things arent adding up, due to the officers tryna cover up something.....my heart goes out to the family.
ReplyDeletePolice feel as if they are unstopable & invinceable behind their badges. The motto is "Serve & Protect" when all we are seeing here lately is "Serving Up Death & Protecting their own" and call it justified homicide when in actuallity its unJUSTified HOMICIDE! Regardless of a persons background court is there for a reason & judges have their jobs. Whatever happen to a trial? Maybe its because so many feel the court system is unjust that the police feel why go to court just jump out shooting! @ the person on 11/27/2010 8:05pm as a member of the Ferguson Family we appreciate you comment & accept you condolences. (victim's cousin)

ReplyDeleteNot even close to the Joshua Madison incident. Not one bit. In that situation an officer was dragged by the suspect's vehicle for almost a block, suffering serious injuries. The suspect was shot only after he ignored repeated calls to stop dragging the officer.
