At 4:15 a.m., a CTA employee reported an assault on the Red Line. The incident occurred at 521 North State Street on a southbound train at the Grand/State subway station.
Apparently, a man attacked a disabled CTA passenger in a wheelchair. The man in the wheelchair struggled with his attacker, pulled a knife, and stabbed the suspect.
As police were responding, an ambulance was called to the subway to treat the offender. According to the CTA train operator, the man in the wheelchair was not injured.
The train was held at the Grand/State station until police arrived.
