David Blake: Murdered Chicago Police Officer’s Death is a Real Whodunit

I have become enthralled with Chicago police SWAT team member, David Blake’s murder. I have used my skills as a proficient, armchair-criminal-profiler, to examine every possible scenario in Blake’s case.

No matter how unfathomable, I have hypothetically turned over every grimy stone. So far, I have come up with three viable explanations for Officer Blake’s murder: sex, drugs, or a work-related execution.

The media is trying to pacify us with stories about Blake’s professional accolades, charitable endeavors, and the fact that he supposedly loved his job. With all due respect, that background information may look great in an obituary, but it has no relevancy when it comes to solving this crime. Not that the media is in the business of solving crimes, or keeping us truly informed, for that matter.

Besides, any armchair detective worth his salt, knows the only way to solve a murder mystery, is to get to know the victim. And I mean, really know the victim.

But if you’re waiting on the media to shed some light on who this slain officer really was -- don’t hold your breath. Almost every article written about Blake mentions he was a loner, and suspiciously moves on. But no man is an island. Blake spent his free time with someone. A girlfriend. A boyfriend. Someone. And the fact that the press hasn’t spoken to anyone with intimate knowledge of Blake’s day-to-day life, has the rumor mill working overtime.

But here’s what we do know; or, at least have been told....

On November 22, 2010, Officer Blake was parked in a secluded spot, in a residential alley on the 2900 block of South Seipp Street, when he was shot to death.

The shooting occurred around 6:30 p.m., which means the sun was setting by the time the murder occurred. The location of the crime not only suggests Blake was comfortable with his killer, he also wanted to be alone with him.

Several reports have indicated the 45-year-old SWAT team member was shot in the back of the head, at least five times. He also had a cigarette between his lips, when his body was discovered. Adding to the mystique, is the fact that the widows of Blake’s SUV were rolled up, and none of them were shattered by gunfire.

Blake was shot fives times in the head and none of the bullets exited the windows. That means not only was the shooter sitting behind Blake, the officer’s head was probably tilted forward when the first shot was fired. Furthermore, the number of shots fired indicate the shooting was personal - the killer was out to settle a score. Blake's killer was someone he knew, and knew well.

Like I said, I have come up with three viable explanations for Blake’s murder: sex, drugs, or a work-related execution. I just wish I knew which theory applies to this case.

  2. There isn't much info on that site. And they seem to be suggesting that Officer Blake was a black cop who acted white. Whatever that is supposed to mean. It sounds like complete rubbish to me.

  6. I wonder if David Blake was killed by a fellow police officer who found out he was having an affair with his wife. He did not smoke but was found with a cigarette in his mouth. Cop kills cop is the last thing this city needs to be front-page news.

  7. Is it true that the guy charged ,Bernard Williams is now being charged with Battery instead of murder? And he now qualifies for bail? Whats the explanation for that?
