CTA Bus Driver Assaulted

A CTA bus driver was reportedly punched in the mouth on Chicago’s south side.

The attack occurred around 9:15 p.m.

Police say bus number 6415, a number 9 Ashland bus, was on the 8700 block of South Ashland Avenue when the battery occurred.

So far, I have been unable to obtain a motive for the assault.

  1. That CTA Bus Driver was my husband! Our hopes is that the cameras were working on the bus and got enough shots of the assailant(s) that the Chicago Police can move forward in finding these guys so that we can prosecute.

  2. Timothy, let me add that in regard to "motive", according to my husband's account on what took place, four (4) black men boarded his bus at 87th and Aberdeen. 2 boarded at the front of the bus and paid their fare and the other 2 boarded the bus at the back of the bus. He told the 2 at the back of the bus that they had to pay their fare. They got back off the bus. By the time they reached 87th and Ashland, he was sitting, waiting on passengers to get off the bus. However, before he knew what hit him, one of the guys, who boarded at the front of the bus and paid his fare, had run up and hit the driver. My husband said that he immediately jumped up, but, the guy hit him, jumped off the bus and ran. The only real motive that we can come up with is that the gentlemen who was asked to pay their fare who chose not to, but, got off the bus, either they asked to other guys to retaliate against my husband or they chose to retaliate against my husband on their own. Either way, we will ask that charges be filed against them, if and when they are found. They were on the bus long enough that shots of them should have been found and for them to have done what they did, and I hate to stereotype, but, they are probably already in the system. We're just waiting to see how well this incident is investigated and if my husband will be vindicated by being able to see who his attacker(s) were.

  3. Thank you for sharing that information. I hope your husband wasn't hurt badly. Was the camera on his bus actually working?
