According to the Chicago Police Department’s Index Crime Summary, murders are up 200% in Uptown.
From January to July of 2009, there was one murder reported in the 23rd district. As of July 2010, there have been three murders. One of which was Aaron Carter, who was shot on the 4400 block of North Magnolia.
On a positive note, robberies are down 4.8%.
From January to July of 2009, 147 robberies were reported in the 23rd district. As of July 2010, that number fell by 7; dropping the robbery count to 140. And there’s more good news. Burglaries are down by 25.9%.
If you feel like celebrating this good news, don’t blow up those balloons, just yet.
Car owners in Uptown have a lot to be worried about. Car thefts in the 23rd district are up 13.7%. From January to July of 2009, there were 131 reports of motor vehicle thefts in the 23rd district. As of July 2010, 149 reports of car thefts have been made.
