Boy Flashes Gang Sign During 81st Annual Bud Billiken Parade? The Ironic Twist!
Chicago’s ABC7, broadcasted the 81st annual Bud Billiken Parade with hosts Cheryl Burton, Tom Joyner, Bill Campbell, Jim Rose, and Karen Jordan.
While Jesse Jackson was speaking with ABC reporter, Karen Jordan, a young boy, about 10 or 11-years-old, flashed what appeared to be a gang sign for the cameras. When the boy made the hand gesture, Jackson was talking about Chicago’s gun violence and the importance of parents getting involved with their children’s education.
Watch the parade after the jump.

IDIOTS R EVERYWHERE!!!!!!!
Since when is a finger pointing down a gang sign??? Is this what they taught in your pop culture class?? Bud Biliken is about going back to school and family.....is this one finger all you could focus on? White people alwasy look for what;s negative in the black community in the midst of positive. You should write a formal apology behind this.
ReplyDeleteBetween you, Mr Fitz, and (E.D. Hill')the person who inferred that the fist bump shared by President Obama and his wife following his nomination as being terrorist or threatening somehow - the two of you Caucasians need a reality check.
ReplyDeleteThe young man pictured was simply playing silly for the camera, not flashing any gang sign.
It is blatantly apparent that your exposure to the Black community is so severely limited (probably television only) that anything that looks "out of the norm" is to be construed as negative, threatening, or even gang-related. This is ignorant and if the parents of this young man wanted, could file suit against you and the paper for liable, slander, defamation of character, and could do so with assurance of victory.
If you don't know what you're seeing, ask someone, but don't assume what you see it what you perceive it to be. That is called poor journalism and downright stupid.
Retraction should be your next recourse, followed by resignation...you bring shame to the industry and yourself with this slipshod use of the media.
Signed,
Laurette Williams
THATS NOT A GANG SIGN, BUT THIS IS AN ATTEMPT TO BRING MORE NEGATIVE ATTENTION...
ReplyDeleteReading is fundamental, folks. I never said the kid flashed a gang sign. I said he appeared to be flashing a gang sign. There is a difference.
ReplyDeleteAnd if you watch the video, you'll see he is not merely holding one finger down; as one of you suggested. He clearly threw a sign up, and then threw it down. Something I have seen plenty of gang members do.
As far as I am concerned, your anger is misguided. The person you should be attacking are all those clueless "adults" sitting around, while this boy is playing with fire.
This is one of the worst articles ever written. The author is a complete idiot who is out to bring more negative attention to the African American Community.
ReplyDeleteThis isn't a gang side, but instead a kid holding up with he appears to be a "cool" sign.
For the media who hide in their suburban homes - gangs are no longer an issue as the days of old. thugs aren't wearing colors & flashing gang signs. The majority of the killing is due to kids of whom their parent's are properly disciplining. More articles on - how can we reach out to are lost youth - would be helpful!

ReplyDeleteYour problem is with the gangs that are destroying your neighborhood and killing your children. Stop wasting your time calling me names, and raise your children, properly.
