Adventist LaGrange Memorial Hospital and Adventist Hinsdale Hospital Accused Of Racial Discrimination

Adventist Hinsdale Hospital
Adventist LaGrange Memorial Hospital (located at 5101 Willow Springs Rd. in La Grange, Illinois) and Adventist Hinsdale Hospital (located at 120 N. Oak St. in Hinsdale, Illinois) have been hit with several claims of racial discrimination.

Eight women, all African-American, claim that they were treated unfairly, due to their race. The women say  they were passed up for promotions and assigned duties that their white co-workers didn't have to do.

"We would complain about, ''The white girls don't have do this or they don't ever have to do that,' and they were like, 'It's your job,'" said Curastine Dennis, who has a lawsuit pending in federal court.

A spokesperson for the hospitals has denied the allegations:

"In more than 100 years of service, not one of our hospitals has ever been found guilty of discrimination," it said. "When a discrimination complaint is made, we conduct a prompt and thorough investigation. In each of these cases, the employees were terminated for legitimate, non-discriminatory business reasons."

The CBS News article that featured this story, is littered with comments from people claiming to know several of the women involved in this case. The comments suggest that the African-American complainants were lazy and had bad attitudes. However, most of the comments appear to be written by the same person. So I question the validity of their statements.

Below is the CBS News footage:

  2. I used to work for Adventist and they treat thier employees TERRIBLE!!! They give thier nurses on the floors up to 8 patients and thier nurses aides up to 24 pts foro one person. This puts thier licenses on the line and is so unfair all because they want to save a buck and not hire agency nurses... It is dangerous for the patients also...

  3. Disgruntled employees, no matter what race, have difficulty blaming themsleves for their own poor performance! Shame on the media if they did not check all of their facts before printing these stories...
I work for Adventist Midwest Health and I work with individuals of all races, religions, and beliefs - they are my friends and my co-workers and I know this belief is shared by the leaders and fellow workers of my organization. We do have administrative staff of all races, religions and beliefs! We care about our patients and try to keep only the individuals that will carry on the mission of our hospital!
