Major car accident, crash in West Rogers Park

Late Thursday evening, a serious car accident was reported on Chicago’s Far North Side.

Citing police dispatch reports, the incident occurred shortly after 9 p.m., near the intersection of West Howard Street and North Francisco Avenue in the West Ridge, West Rogers Park neighborhood.

At the time of this report, the cause of the accident was still under investigation.

According to information obtained by Chicago News Report, at one point, several people were strapped inside a vehicle at the scene.

Police were ordered to keep approaching family members away from the crash site.

Several ambulances were called to the scene.

UPDATE: It appears at least four people were injured.

UPDATE: Two people were taken to Illinois Masonic, one person went to Lutheran General, and one patient was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, Illinois. At the time of this update, a fifth ambulance was still at the crash site.

UPDATE: Apparently, a fifth ambulance was stationed at the crash site, because one victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

  2. One major cause of car accidents is not a criminal that drove drunk, sped or ran a red light. Distracted drivers are the top cause of car accidents in the U.S. today. A distracted driver is a motorist that diverts his or her attention from the road, usually to talk on a cell phone, send a text message or eat food.
