Alderman Joe Moore may be proud to serve the residents of Rogers Park, West Ridge, and Edgewater, but we doubt Moore is as enthusiastic about a recently bestowed award.
YouTube video narrative:
As part of Operation Roll Call, part 2, Occupy Rogers Park and Occupy Chicago presented an award to Joe Moore, Alderman of the 49th Ward of Chicago during a meeting of the 49th Ward Democratic Party on January 23rd, 2012. Transcript: We'd like to thank you for selling out your progressive values and supporting the "Sit Down and Shut Down" ordinance. In recognition of your service to the 1%, Joe "Mr. Progressive" Moore. Moore: "Thank you, I'll put it on the wall." |
The mock-award was in response to Moore's support of Mayor Rahm Emanuel's new "Parade and Public Assembly Ordinance".
According to Moore's published statement, the 49th Ward alderman believes our 1st amendment rights and the rights of free expression and protest, "are subject to reasonable time, place and manner restrictions."

The occupiers will be out of control this spring/summer. Especially if NATO/G8 gets ugly. Chicago might be the Zucotti Park of '12.
ReplyDeleteLuckily we have plenty of 'unruly teens' to pick them off 1 by 1 as they are looking for a place to shit.
Makes me wish I was a cop, I would LOVE to beat some hippie ass.
ReplyDeleteShouldn't they be ranting about the rampant crime right outside their front doors? Or maybe they live in a highrise "because it's safe".
ReplyDeleteI don't get why these people don't understand that freedom assembly is subject to standards of reasonableness. Especially in this day & age of instant, digital communication, it is unreasonable to expect to be allowed to sit or camp anywhere, at any time, no matter the impact on the larger community, in order to spread a point.
ReplyDeleteIf those idiots want to shut down streets and disrupt normal daily activity, that's fine, that's their choice, but they need to understand that they are putting themselves at risk of arrest for those activities.
The alderman isn't "Standing up for the 1%," as these assholes state. He's representing all Chicago citizens, many of whom have been restricted from being able to get to work or do their daily errands due to their shutting down of public ways. Also, it requires people who want to protest to now provide some type of contact information, which is perfectly reasonable. Finally, this helps protect the property rights of property owners who may, against their will, end up with these jokers using their property either as an initial starting point, or assembling on their property. And we all know that a significant percentage of property owners here are anything but the "1%."
Freedom of speech does not mean, “Freedom to do or say whatever you want, whenever you want, wherever you want, out in public.”
Great response by him. Don't let those jerks bully you. Just stand there, let them do their stupid little, "Rant & repeat" tactic, shake the guy's hand, take the stupid plaque, and go back to work (unlike these losers).
ReplyDeleteThese occupiers make me sick. I just wish the police would break out the fire hoses and wash them down the sewer where they belong.
ReplyDeleteI don't get that "I'm bald and ugly so I will grow a full beard and no one will notice..." look.
ReplyDeleteThe first amendment is sooooo stupiid. You go Alderman girlfriend.
ReplyDeleteYeah, and the I'm bald but it still grows in the back so I'll show you, I'll grow a really long pony tail look.
ReplyDeleteThe baseball cap looks faboo with the suit jacket too(I thought they hate "suits/coats" anyway so what's the deal?). I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. Maybe the cap had some message on it like "No Justice/No Peace" or "Save Our Transient Youth" or something.
The jackasses protesting here are just as dumb as the "Take Back Woodlawn" idiots who somehow perceived that an alderman approving an existing grocery store's application for a liquor license equals to the Alderman opening up new liquor stores because he doesn't think black people are drunk enough.
ReplyDeleteThose liberals are so blinded by their pre-conceived notions of everybody else that they fail to see things for what they really are.
Also, I agree with 10:22 am - just becuase these jerks do their little "Rant & repeat" tactic doesn't make them right. He who screams loudest, does so because it's the only argument he has.
"These are not scraps. These are the historic remains of a once great society of hair." -George Costanza
ReplyDeleteIts official, all protesters with any kind of left wing grievance have all combined into one umbrella group: "Occupy Whatever".
ReplyDeleteIt was supposed to be a protest against perceived excesses of the banking industry. Now it claims to be against everything from welfare reform to global warming to wearing fur.
If you stand for everything, you really stand for nothing.
Typical Rogers Park liberal clowns just doing what they do best, acting like clowns. Maybe when they are victims of crimes themselves they'll be able to take life and resposibilties a little more seriously. Im guessing things will indeed be crazy come the G8 summit. All except for one of the above comments were thoroughly enjoyable. Thank You.
ReplyDeleteWhen I approached him about needing a 24/7 police officer by the Loyola El station he immediately started ignoring me.
ReplyDeleteJust today I had to go get my boo some WacDonald's, and of course there was a guy bopping and jivin' by the front door bugging people for money and peppering his pitch with religious nonsense. Another fuckhole kept running in and announced which buses were pulling up at that stop, and wanting people to pay him for his "services".
Anything to avoid legitimate work, even if they work harder than actual legitimate work at it!!!
He needs to advocate that social service agencies stop dumping their psycho clients in our neighborhood, always some fucking psycho lurking about lately.
ReplyDeleteI want to alert Rogers Park readers there is a new con artist in Rogers Park, he is a wheelchair bound black guy with a checkered leg wrap. He is bothering people with his garbage outside key locations near Loyola University.
ReplyDeleteGiving them money only feeds their dysfunction, they have to use the services everyone else has to, or just roll over and die. Too bad.
