
At 8:42 p.m., citizens reported gunshots in the vicinity of Paulina and Juneway Terrace.
Moments later, police were notified that a man was shot at 1668 West Juneway Terrace.
According to preliminary reports, the victim was shot in the back.
The shooing victim, a male black in his 30s, was standing in front of the Juneway Terrace address, when an unknown gunman shot him, said police.
Authorities believe the shooting was accidental and the gunman was aiming at someone else when he pulled the trigger.
Police identified the shooter as a 17-year-old male black named Glenford Johnson.
Johnson goes by the nickname Munchie and has shot someone before, said police.
Johnson is about 5’8”, 150 pounds, and was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black pants.
After the shooting, witnesses saw Johnson run westbound on Juneway, then northbound toward Calvary Cemetery in Evanston, Illinois.
Investigators found shell casing on the 1700 block of Juneway Terrace.
The shooting victim was transported to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, Illinois, in unknown condition.
UPDATE: During the hours after the shooting, Johnson was apprehended. A witness to the shooting failed to identify him as the shooter. Police were forced to let Johnson go.
