Man shot: Shooting near Uptown’s Clarendon Park


Sunday, at 3:01 a.m., gunshots were reported on the 4500 block of North Clarendon Avenue, near Clarendon and Sunnyside Avenues.

About a minute later, another 911 call indicated a man was shot and laying on the ground near Clarendon Park.

According to an officer at the scene, the victim was shot in the right side of his abdomen.

Witnesses saw a silver four-door vehicle flee the scene northbound on Clarendon Avenue.

If more information becomes available, this article will be updated accordingly.

UPDATE: Police are looking for a newer model Nissan Maxima with tinted windows. The vehicle was last seen in the vicinity of Sheridan and Irving Park Road.

UPDATE: Reportedly, the shooting victim's name is Ricky Smothers.

  1. Drug deal gone bad? gang member? Looking for action? What kind of people, other then those who work the night shift, are out at that time of the "morning?"...
    That area around Sunnyside seems to be filled with ghetto thugs. Shootings happen around Sunnyside alot.
