Preliminary reports indicate the accident happened in a northbound lane on the 1600 or 1700 block of North Lake Shore Drive, around 8 p.m.
The man was thrown from his bike, over a 30-foot embankment, and landed on the pavement at an underpass near North Avenue Beach, said police.
According to an officer at the scene, the man is in “grave condition”.
The injured motorist was transported to Illinois Masonic Hospital.
One source said the man was riding a "Red Streak Expressway 250 scooter".
Motorcycles scooters and other motorized bikes are VERY DANGEROUS! I sure hope the chap survives and recovers quickly.
ReplyDeleteHe passed away
ReplyDeleteCity needs to do something about the potholes.
ReplyDeleteHe died?!! That is so horrible. My condolences to his family.
ReplyDelete^^Actually, I just read the Trib version and I have to say, Timmy did more than broke the news. He gave the details that the Trib STILL won't surrender.
ReplyDeleteA) The cyclist hit a pothole and flew off of his bike.
B) Police said the incident was a single-vehicle crash but could not provide any details this evening.
How 'bout working the story, "staff report(er)?" I mean, um, "intern."
Tim, as a blogger, I don't have to jump through all the hoops that REAL reporters have to maneuver.
ReplyDeleteIf I hear it, I report it.
Are you always up this late/early?
My friend died earlier this week from a motorcycle crash that happened on September 28th on Division Street and Elston. He had been complaining of the dangerous road conditions and was a very experienced rider. He lost control of his bike and died of a head injury. I wonder if it wasn't another pothole. R.I.P. Eric.

ReplyDeleteCNR--I walk amongst earthlings at all hours of the day and night. lol
ReplyDeleteI was just driving on LSD northbound last Saturday from Michigan to Fullerton and noticed an insane pothole in the far right late. I made a comment to the wife that hitting it would have messed up my low car really bad. I wouldn't be surprised if this is where this incident occurred - no way a scooter could have made it over the hole I saw. This city needs to take care of these things, clearly we are talking about life and death here.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sad story and what a disgrace on the city. Guess they might be taking care of the potholes in this city better after they get hit with the lawsuit that is coming. There was no reason for this tragedy to happen.
