Man ‘jumps’ into Lake Michigan to escape police questioning, drowns, dies

A man apparently dove into Lake Michigan to avoid police.

At 8:11 p.m., a suspect questioned by police at a Near North Side park, jumped into the lake at Milton Olive Park, said authorities.

The park’s address is 500 North Lake Shore Drive.

However, preliminary reports indicate the man entered the water near the 600 block of East Ohio, near Navy Pier.

When the incident occurred, dispatch asked a responding officer if he could throw the man a lifeline, but the officer said the man was too far out in the water.

A witness at the scene said the man in the water appeared to be drowning and “going under”.

The man’s body was pulled from Lake Michigan about an hour later, at approximately 9:10 p.m.

An officer at the scene refused to say if the man was dead or alive.

A reliable source said the man died.

  2. Not sad. You do the crime. You pay the time. One less criminal on the street.

  3. How do you know the man was a criminal? Just because he ran does not mean he was guilty!

  5. ^^^ I guess you have never dealt with the mentally ill. There are a number of reasons that guy might have ran from the police. Don't let your ignorance impair your judgement!
