Police report confirms men pushed woman, baby down stairs at CTA “L” station

On June 8, 2011, our credibility was questioned when we ran a story about two thugs who pushed a woman and her baby down a stairwell at the Sheridan “L” stop at 3940 North Sheridan Road.

You can read our initial report here.

The story had such a tremendous response, the Huffington Post included a link to our story on their website. As a result, the article became one of the most popular stories on ChicagoNewsReport.com.

But in the midst of our groundbreaking reporting, we received some unexpected backlash. Some of our readers flat-out accused us of lying.

Here’s what one of our most vocal critics said:

“I hope Chicago News Report has their time right, because I was at that stop from 9:00 until 9:30 pm and NOTHING like that happened while I was there. I even was at the Chase ATM afterwards and saw not one police car called during that time. Wow, I can't believe they would just make something up like this as bad as the city already is, and as if we don't have enough to worry about. Smfh”

Well, now you can read the police report for yourself.

  1. Welcome back Tim. I'm glad my favorite local news blog is back and active again. Although this story did not seem unbelievable to me, it is good to see the controversy is put to rest. The stairs at that particular train station are BRUTAL, and almost unsafe to even walk down. Hopefully the women have recovered by now...

  2. Thank you for coming back!

According to the police report, the mother and child sustained minor bruises and medical treatment was refused.

We had to revisit this story, because we received a ton of emails claiming the story was made up to get attention.

I can't speak for other bloggers, but Chicago News Report would never knowingly print false information.

  4. It never shocked or surprised me to hear that this happened at Sheridan. Bad people move around and they've been making little laps between Sheridan and Belmont all summer long looking for easy marks. If this State doesn't get on board with concealed carry I'm getting off this ride and taking my tax dollars somewhere else.

  5. I have never questioned the authenticity of ANY story on CNR but some people refused to see the evil and the lack of humanity that preys on the innocent.

  7. Thank you! I never though you would make up a story. Chicago has such scumbags, who would need to make this stuff up? Hope the woman is ok.
