VIDEO: Chicago Bucket Boyz thrill, annoy crowd outside Wrigley Field

Depending on who ask, the Bucket Boyz are a musical treat, or a complete nuisance.

Back in May 2011, Chicago News Report covered a robbery in Chicago's Wrigleyville neighborhood, where the offenders were identified as "Bucket Boyz".

On any given day, there are numerous police calls and complainants made against the controversial street performers.

Yet, they continually pop up... with drumsticks and buckets in hand.

The following video was filmed outside Wrigley Field and posted on YouTube on August 9, 2011.

Enjoy, or cringe - which ever you prefer.

  1. Personally I have mixed emotions about the bucket boys. They could be out robbing or stealing instead of what they are doing, but on the flip side I don't approve of their begging. I've heard some of the different bucket groups and some do have some talent, like I said my issue is the begging. Some of these kids could be real drummers if only they were in a real band, with real drums, inside a real music class. At least they're(most) aren't trying to be violent.

  2. I think the dudes in this video have real talent! Their drum work is amazing!

  3. How is this not awesome? They could be out robbing people, instead they're drumming and trying to make some money.

  4. Yeah, that's all fine and good, but I was in Taco Bell by Wrigley and the Bucket Boyz harrassed the *bleep* out of me, mocking my appearance, how fast I ate, and kept helping themselves to free drinks with courtesy cups stolen blatantly from behind the counter. They showed me a well-worn flyer for their "basketball team" and refused to answer questions about this so-called "charity" After repeated refusals from several customers they had a mini-tantrum and said "Aw! Come on!" and then said 'You have got to buy me a soft taco!" They were rude and used a certain twelve letter word as punctuation throughout their conversations. Even if their charity was legit I wouldn't help them after they so thoroughly insulted me.

  5. They're just mean little bastards who act out because they never had a daddy in their life. F them and their talentless "talent show".

  6. My vote is for "complete nuisance". Weren't they run off of Michigan Ave.?

  7. These hoodlums should be in a library reading books trying to be productive members of society instead of being bums. Sorry not impressed at all, I would be if they had a book in their hands.

  8. You bigots should be ashamed of yourselves. If those were white boys beating those buckets you'd be singing their praises to high heaven!!!! They are talented musicians and they aren't doing anything wrong!

  9. If they were white boys doing the same thing, I'd know that there is likely a father in their lives, and I'd ask their daddy why he isn't whipping their lazy butts for not getting a real job!!
What kind of talent is it to beat on a plastic bucket? I've seen three years old clanging pots and pans together, but they grow out of it!
Trust me, ask the manager of any fast food restaurant in Wrigleyville about these "musicians" and you will hear that they harass paying customers!
You pretty much get the idea that some people will do anything to avoid legitimate work after awhile. Those enterprising youths selling water in the streets bought it with their LINK card, which is EBT FRAUD!!!!! If you buy water from one of those jokers, you've paid for it twice (first time with your taxes!)

  10. I'm a "White boy without a father in his life" and never fell for their crap!

I know percussionists. Want names? These hoodrats will never make it to the Gong Show. Heaven help the suburanites trying to show their offspring "diversity".

And my response (as they feel they ARE entitled to one here) is "I already gave at the office" - via my 67% state income tax increase.

  11. "If they were White"... LOL!!! If they were white they probably would be doing something a little more productive than this circus show.

  13. Anybody who thinks banging on a plastic bucket is a "musical delight" has severe brain damage, which many people seem to have, it explains the career of Puff Daddy or whatever the %$ck he's calling himself these days. Ooh, let's take a Led Zeppelin song and rap over it! Like smearing feces on a gourmet dinner.

  14. They're strictly a nuisance and are probably scoping their next victims out while they beat those drums. Stupid tourists, anything amuses them.

  15. I can't believe some of the comments here. "If they were white they would probably being doing something productive." This is just one example of these type of comments. These guys aren't thugs walking around robbing and beating up innocent people. I agree with most of the comments on the different stories, but people are just wrong in this case. Everyone is entitled to their opinion of whether they like or dislike the bucket boyz, but lets not get mean spirited. If you don't want to give them money, don't, I never have, and I also have never been harassed for just walking by. What they do does take talent, it does take practice, and it does take a lot of coordination. To the person who said 3 year olds beat pots and pans, why don't you try beating a bucket and making it sound 1/10th as good as these guys. Why don't you also try doing some of their stick work, see how long it takes you to master without messing up. This may not be a "real" job, but they created something that makes money rather then just sitting and begging on the street. I would much rather see this then some guy laying on the street with a sign. If you don't like it, then don't give them money, keep walking, or don't visit the establishments they are around. As you can see in the video, many people were watching or eating at the places around them, none of them looked bothered in the least. Keep your hate for the people that actually deserve it.

To the anon at 2:15 how can you call someone brain dead for their musical preference. People who don't like Led Zeppelin could call you brain dead, as I'm assuming you like this type of music, but it doesn't make it true. The only brain dead people are those that don't respect other people's choices of music/art/etc. I know I won't change anyone's mind here but I figured I would at least express my opinion, now go ahead and call me brain dead for doing so.

  16. The simple fact of the matter is blacks will do ANYTHING to avoid legitimate work (and paying taxes on wages earned). When I heard about them submitting a W-4 for their "wages" maybe I could have some respect for them. Between these fartfaces, people who sell socks or other junk on the street, and black dudes selling water that we already paid for with our taxes (buying a case of water with Link and then selling it.)
The difference between real music and rap music is real music involves instruments, and understanding musical notes. Singers understand what note to hit while singing over the music.
Rap is just somebody talking trash over somebody else's (sampled) music. It's just talking. And the subject matter is incredibly limited, it celebrates violence, misogyny, mindless materialism, and loveless sexual acts. It's a toxic culture that needs to die out.
The Bucket Boyz only purpose is to distract onlookers while their buddies pickpocket them. They loiter in restaurants and demand people buy them food. They insult people.

  17. dont get me wrong, I loathe backwards-a$$, ghetto, thugged-out blacks and their retarded culture as much as the next guy... but these guys are talented! you've got to understand: these people dont even think to pick up a book, or study and go to college, etc.; with that in mind, what these guys are doing is both an achievement as well as entertaining. the rhythm, stick movements, synced-up bits... they've practiced, and have got a market. go "chase that paper", as the blacks are wont to say!

here's a funny exercise: just think about "black culture", and what comes to mind? vaginas are not clown cars, full stop.

  18. These black gangstas are tough! They rule the Harold Washington library like nobody else! I know back in the day Al Capone would stand around the bookmobile with a gat lookin' hard!!

Seriously, high intelligence should be the most prized attribute in any living being, but instead it's how talented in violence and intimidation you are. The human race is doomed

  19. Not much talent, but alot of noise. With the money the do get, couldn't they buy used drum sets instead of an empty dry wall pail?

  20. To every Bucket Boy defender here -- I will give you $10 to let me come to your work and bang on plastic buckets (or play a tape of the BB's themselves at the same volume level) for HOURS on end. You think their race has anything to do with it? I'd be just as mad if they were white, I just want them out of downtown and in school (during the week) where they belong. (The real racism here is that nobody mentions the harm their truancy is doing to their futures, because hey, they'd surely be thugs/robbers/etc. if they weren't banging the buckets, right?)
