CBS Chicago news reported at least one person was arrested at the 2011 Bud Billiken Parade in Chicago, but according to information obtained by Chicago News Report, that's not the only incident that occurred at the African-American parade.

A fight between two parade performers landed one man in jail, reports CBS.

At approximately 10:28 a.m., 25-year-old Anthony Smith, a member of the Chicago Youth Dance Coalition, was arrested after he and a 17-year-old performer fought at 319 East Pershing Road, said police.

Smith reportedly said the 17-year-old was getting in his way.

Smith was taken into custody and no injuries were reported.

Unfortunately, Smith's arrest wasn't the only negative occurrence at the 82nd annual parade.

Per police dispatch, at 10:52 a.m., a woman called 911 after her brother was stabbed at the parade.

Chicago News Report was unable to determine the location of the stabbing.

However, according to dispatch, a 52-year-old man was stabbed in the leg at the Bub Billiken Parade.

An officer at the scene verified the stabbing and an ambulance was called to the location.

Approximately one hour and thirty minutes later, around 12:34 p.m., a police officer working traffic detail at the parade reported a large group of teens fighting along the parade route.

According to the officer, a brawl erupted on the 5100 block of South Washington Park Court; which is about one block east of South Martin Luther King Drive.

It's unclear if any arrests or injuries were reported.

Thankfully, a few troublemakers didn't ruin the entire experience.

From what I was told, most of the people in attendance, especially the children, enjoyed the back-to-school parade without incident.

  1. Seems like it was calm considering how many people were in attendance. It could have been a whole lot worse and I'm glad it wasn't. The Gay parade this year was worse then the BB parade as far as crimes go. Maybe it was the weather....

  2. You're right. There was way more violence at the gay parade then Bud Billiken.

  3. This was one of the calmest, most peaceful and truly beautiful Bud Billiken parades in recent memory. Everyone was so happy. Every crime that happens on the day of the parade is not necessarily connected to the parade.
