Free food in Lakeview triggers 911 calls
Given the recent stabbings and mob violence in Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood, some residents are unstably on edge.
So when a large crowd of people were seen rushing towards a neighborhood intersection, the 911 calls started rolling in.
At approximately 10:21 p.m., several people reported a huge brawl at the corner of Clark and Halsted Streets.
One 911 caller said thirty men and woman were fighting in a parking lot near the DSW shoe store at 3131 North Clark Street.
However, when police arrived at the scene, the situation was something completely different.
Apparently, a mob of people swarmed the parking lot looking for free grub.
According to an officer at the scene, The Night Ministry was giving away food.

Didn't think much of it when I saw all this "congregating" there last Summer. Did notice a lack of "diversity" though. Then saw those bloodied "youth" soon thereafter at the same intersection (that your 911 obviously is tired of as well).
ReplyDeleteWho's paying for the "free food"? I want some after this 67% state income tax increase.
"Who's paying for all this free food?"
ReplyDeleteReally? The Night Ministry is a longtime non-profit in Chicago that has done yeoman work for years feeding the homeless and providing medical help to them, including STD/HIV tests and counseling, all over Chicago. They go wherever homeless people are. They're supported by churches and private donors.
So people don't want to pay more taxes to provide such services and then also don't want private groups to provide them either? So I guess they're saying they just want the homeless to starve? Oh, by the way, did you catch the 60 Minutes piece last week about the huge numbers of Iraq War vets coming back home to no jobs and ending up homeless? Guess they should just starve, too, right? I mean, we've finished using them to help preserve the oil supply for our SUVs, so...
Really, criticizing people for taking the initiative to be charitable to those less fortunate takes the cake.
Well said, anonymous 7/15!!!
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't want to see anyone starving BUT, just what are any of these people, young and able bodied included, doing to help themselves? It's one thing to be out there helping people but they need to be doing something to help themselves. When will the cash cow end for the sponges of society? Why aren't there stipulations for getting help, like proof that they're actually looking for a job, or maybe they should do some volunteer work to give at least something back in return for the help they're getting. Life is tough for many many people but somehow, those same people aren't sponging off society or committing crimes or crying "whoa is me". Start helping yourself as well. The well is drying up!
ReplyDeleteThat's a good question...what ARE they doing to better themselves? THere's a 30Million plus Center on Halsted with 20 well working computers with internet. I've sat there many days looking for a job after losing mine. But then again, I'm just a privileged, elite white guy. Did I ever see any of the "underprivileged" using those computers to figure out how to make a resume? How about furthering their skills? You know, self-teaching...taking initiative? How about applying for jobs. No...instead, all I saw were people on Facebook, people listening to VERY LOUD music (despite huge ear plugs), music videos and some even brought their own DVDs to watch full-length movies!!!! Yeah...good thing the COH was supposed to help people better themselves.
