VIDEO: CTA passenger pulls 'knife' on #147 Outer Drive express bus

A passenger filmed a man wildly swinging what appears to be knife, on board a CTA bus. Video of the incident was uploaded to YouTube on April 21, 2011.

According to the video's narrative, the incident took place on a #147 Outer Drive express bus.

Here's what happened.

A clearly agitated male passenger, possibly suffering from mental illness, aggressively swung an object, presumably a knife, just inches away from other passengers.

A female passenger, probably fearing for her life, left her seat and relocated to the front of the bus.

A male passenger in view of the camera, seemed to ignore the man's threatening behavior.

The video's owner, who goes by the screen name, Chicagorobb19, said the subject was definitely wielding a knife. He also said the bus driver was completely apathetic to the situation.

"This crazy guy with a knife was 3ft away from me shouting and swinging a knife. We were on an express bus and couldn't get off. Driver watched whole thing and did nothing. Thought I was going to have to fight him off. Thank you CTA driver in bus 4155 for your total apathy," said Chicagorobb19.

  1. Clearly that man is on something or just mental. Great, now it's the #147..my bus of choice. It's very typical of the CTA bus drivers, who make a minium of $20.00 bucks an hour, to not give a rats ass about their passengers. I told a driver one time that there were a few people in the back of the bus drinking, throwing up and littering the bus. He made them get off the bus but that's a rare occasion. Generally, they act oblivious. What's the point of having those mirrors turned towards the rest of the bus if they're going to ignore what's going on?

  6. I know this guy, he gets tossed out of the Harold Washington library fairly often. His Tourette's (I'm assuming) is really bad, he spends almost every moment punching the air and swinging and fighting invisible enemies.
