An armed suspect attempted a robbery at a South Side strip mall, said police.

The incident occurred around 5:15 p.m. at 2014 West 79th Street.

The offender flashed a gun at the store clerk, but didn't get any proceeds, said investigators.

Police described the would-be thief as a dark complexioned black man with a mustache and beard, approximately 25-years-old, and 230 pounds.

He was last seen wearing a black t-shirt, black pants, and a black Black Sox baseball cap.

After the attempted armed robbery, the offender fled in an unknown direction.

According to one source, the incident was captured by a surveillance camera.

Authorities did not say which store in the strip mall was targeted. However, according to real estate property website LoopNet.com, there are only three stores at this location: Citibank, MS Beauty Supply, and Cricket.

  1. Not to sound ignorant or anything, but why does it seem like where ever there's a Cricket Wireless store... there seem to be some trouble?

  2. I noticed the same thing too. I don't know if it's because it's a popular store or because of the customers they attract.

  3. Yeah, popular among cheap thugs and drug dealers alike, in amidst Cricket's cheap $25 dollar unlimited plans.

If my memory serves me correctly, there was some guy who tried to rob a Cricket location on the South Side awhile back, but the brave store owner fought with him and pointed the suspect's own gun at him and ran him out the store. Lol
