Shots fired near South Side Jewel-Osco

A man reportedly opened fire on customers in a parking lot on Chicago’s South Side.

At 9:46 p.m., several citizens reported a man with a gun at 7530 South Stony Island Avenue.

The suspect, who was described as a black man with dreadlocks, was standing on top of a blue or green Yukon Denali, waving a gun, said witnesses.

Moments later, the same man allegedly started shooting at random customers in the Jewel-Osco parking lot.

It isn’t clear if anyone was injured.

Police chased the suspect westbound on 75th Street to Dorchester Avenue, then southbound on Dorchester Avenue to South Chicago Avenue.

I was unable to confirm if the suspect was arrested or got away.

Around 9:49 p.m., additional police cars were requested at the Walgreens at 7544 South Stony Island Avenue. A large group had gathered at the store and police were instructed to disperse the crowd.

The Walgreens is adjacent to the Jewel-Osco parking lot, where the alleged shooting occurred.

  2. It's hard to imagine a nut standing on top of a SUV waving a gun around and shooting at strangers. But all things are possible where criminals are concerned.

  3. Is it wrong that I checked Busta Rhymes' site to see if he was touring in town?
