Frozen 'Homeless' Man Found in Closet on West Side

Photo: Trulia.com.
A homeless man was found in the closet of a west side neighborhood home, said authorities.

The address given by police dispatch was 4825 West Hubbard Street in Chicago’s Austin community.

I was able to review photos of the property via the Cook County Assessor’s Office and a real estate website.

The property doesn’t appear to be vacant. So, it’s unclear how the man got inside, or how long he was in the closet.

Preliminary reports indicate the man was taken to West Suburban Hospital in Oak Park, Illinois.

His condition is unknown.

  1. With all the shelters across this city, this is tragic and no excuse for this if he just went in there to get out of the storm. Does someone miss him?

  2. Poor man. I hope he's alright. So many of the homeless have mental and substance abuse issues that greatly impair their judgment.

  4. The 6 S. Kedzie warming center is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

I'd hope this information is readily available, via the alderman's office, West Chicago Avenue Library Branch, the Mid-Austin Steering Committee and the Westside Health Authority.

  5. However long he was in there, it was nowhere near as long as some major male movie stars have been.
