A woman told police she was assaulted after she refused to give a stranger a cigarette.
The incident was reported around 7 p.m. and occurred near the intersection of West Fullerton Avenue and North Halsted Street; which is approximately 800 West Fullerton and 2400 North Halsted.
The victim said an African-American man asked for a cigarette and when she refused to him one, he grabbed her arm.
The suspect was last seen wearing a black jacket, a white hat, and white pants. After the assault, the offender fled the scene westbound on Fullerton.
Police never found the suspect.
On August 25, 2008, Jennifer Hall and her fiance were brutally attacked by two homeless people after leaving a Jewel Food Store at 1224 S. Wabash.
The homeless offenders, identified as Derrick King and Joyce Burgess, attacked Hall after she refused to give them a cigarette. Hall was severely injured and lost most of her teeth.
