Man Threatens Suicide, Harm Others at CTA Green Line Station

Police were called to a Chicago, Austin neighborhood CTA “L” platform after a man threatened to kill himself, or harm other CTA passengers.

The incident occurred around 6:57 p.m., at the Central Green Line stop at 350 North Central Avenue.

A witness said a despondent 35-year-old man was on the "L" platform threatening to take his life, or the lives of those around him.

At 7:01 p.m., an officer on the scene said he couldn’t find the suspect. Eventually, the offender was located.

One source indicated the man, who sustained injuries, was taken to West Suburban Hospital in Oak Park, Illinois.

  1. It's sad when a person gets to that point, but WHY do they have to involve other people? I realize it's an attempt to cry for help but their actions traumatize those around them and as we all know, our brain is an ever present movie projector that's almost impossible to turn off. The people who have jumped or slipped unto the tracks lately cause those who witness that to always see it playing in their mind. While I do think it's tragic I also think it's a bit selfish to involve innocent bystanders in their tragedy.

  2. I agree. It is selfish to involve innocent bystanders in your drama; no matter how much pain you are in. Can you image coming home from a stressful day at work, and having to watch someone take their life, or threaten to take yours?

Whoever this poor soul is, I hope he gets the help he needs.

  3. Why would police be called to the Austin el stop, when the incident occurred at the Central el stop?

The suicide threat occurred in the Austin community.
