Drop in Lawsuits Against Chicago Police Officers May Cost Taxpayers


According to CBS Chicago, Police Superintended, Jody Weis, decided a year ago to stop settling "defensible" lawsuits against the police department and take the complainants to court.

Weis insists the legal strategy has paid off with a dramatic drop in lawsuits filed against Chicago police officers.

But lawyers who represent clients who sue the police department say Weis' plan is costing Chicago taxpayers a fortune. For example: one lawsuit that could have been settled for $10, 000.00, in the end cost taxpayers more than $200,000.00; the bulk of that bill was legal fees.
