2 Women Rescued From Lake Michigan After Boating Mishap

Two women, who had been treading water for 5 hours, defied all odds and managed to survive until three fisherman, who happened to be passing by, rescued them.

Earlier this morning, the two women and two male companions, went boating in the waters near the Museum of Science and Industry. All four jumped into the water for a swim, but when their sailboat, which still had its motor running, drifted away, they became stranded.

21-year-old James Shepherd, one of the people in the water, drowned. Several hours after the women were pulled from Lake Michigan, Shepherd's body was discovered by police. The fourth boater, who hasn't been identified, is still missing. Police are hoping that he is still alive.

Although alcohol was found on board the boat, police have not determined if drinking was a factor in what happened. None of the boaters were wearing life-jackets.
