‘Homeless panhandler’ pulls knife in Ravenswood

A man police described as a “homeless panhandler”, pulled a knife when several people refused to give him money, said authorities.

The incident happened on the 5100 block of North Ashland Avenue, near Ashland and Foster, around 10:45 p.m., said police.

Investigators said a beggar asked several people for money and when they refused, he pulled a knife.

The suspect was described as a male white, 45 to 50-years-old.

The offender, who was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans, was last seen headed southbound on Ashland.

Officers were told to use caution when approaching the suspect.

At the time of this report, the offender was still at large and the victims declined to file a police report, said authorities.

  1. Later probably seen talking to his butterface case worker from Thresholds, C4, wherever. They all probably wanted to help people, and ended up being professional enablers instead. Psychiatry is a fraud, and none of these people are getting the slightest bit better, and their numbers GROW AND GROW AND GROW every year.
CNR readers, when was the last time you went to Jewel, Dominicks, even Trader Joes without some gibbering nicotine stained weirdo ambling about creeping the hell out of everybody? They had the right idea keeping them locked up pre-Reagan years, now we all suffer daily and we're just supposed to take it. We're supposed to be "accepting" even though almost none of us were raised to confront this kind of intense insanity.

  2. I was up there during the day about 2 weeks ago. One white bum very aggressively approached me (he literally came at me crossing the street diagonally) as if I was supposed to just cower to him. It's really out of hand.

When I came out of that office after taking care of my business, I was "ready" for him. Just going to have to start beating them down/off or defending yourselves people.

They're not "homeless". They have a home whether it's a shelter, temporary hotel room or in your "condo" building. they may not like their "home" but the gubment is gonna have to keep them in it.

And the business owners are going to have to get involved too. I came up there to patronize one of those businesses. I can give my money to the agressive panhandler to get them off my back or I can spend it in your store, restaurant or professional office. You have a choice here business owners.

  3. Seinfeld had the best idea for dealing with these panhandlers. Import a bunch of rickshaws from China, and make these fucks taxi people around all day. The crack and PCP they love to smoke will just help them run faster and passengers where they need to go quicker. Plus, when he is in front of you pulling the cart, you can keep an eye on him to make sure he doesnt go too crazy...

  4. Get real. The nigs would rob the rickshaw drivers and their passengers.

  5. For the problem ones that stake their claim on any certain spot, I say exercise your First Amendment Rights by gathering 15 people to out shout their riddles and rhymes to get $ and they'll get tired of it and flea. Make up a chant that addresses their racial slurs they yell at workers in the Loop. Hit 'em where it hurts - right in that stupid cup.

  6. If you are tired of this shit, we need to get a class action suit against the mental health agencies in the city, most of the "homeless" guys are actually on the SSDI/Shelter Plus Care/Link/gibsmedat gravy train. They are moving them all out of Uptown and putting them EVERYWHERE. One of these fucks moved in two buildings down from me and was throwing shit at me as I walked by for no reason fucking whatsoever.

The State of Illinois has made enormous cuts in mental health programs. You are seeing the results.

Put “Illinois budget cuts mental health facilities” into a search engine.

Yes, and thanks to them, it's going to get much worse!

  9. I don't care, I think we should start putting them to sleep.

  10. "Illinois historically and currently has no idea what to do with their mentally ill". I read that somewhere my first year in Chicago as I noticed there certainly is a major difference in that arena compared to other cities I'ved lived in.

Personally, I think whatever tax dollars alloted to them is being squandered (like it is for every other purpose in this state).

Chicago is certainly not alone. For example, New Orleans has similar problems (and similar levels of incompetence and corruption).

  12. ITS just shameful that families just pass their mentally ill relavives to the government. Families are responsible for the mentaly ill in their family. We have ex druggies and mental ill in our family we pull our meager resources together and they are kept awAY FROM THE PUBLIC. The government needs to either keep them detained or put them to sleep if they can't handle them and their families won't help.

The government is broke, so it cannot detain these people even if it wanted to.

As for the second part, the courts have ruled that we are not supposed to execute the mentally ill (“insanity defense”) or the mentally retarded.

Illinois has no death penalty anyway.

Agreed. I have been harassed by the bums who hang around the Clark St McDs (across from Wrigley Field) numerous times. I now have to go out of my way to get home from the train, but sometimes will still run into one or two wandering around the neighborhood. I refuse to patronize that business becasue those crackheads are always around harassing people.

  15. There's one in front of a Walgreen's in the Loop too. He's constantly harrassing people along with shaking his cup of course. His spewing of racial slurs and his tongue hanging out at anything that walks by in a skirt is appalling. It's only a matter of time.

My black female co-worker got into it with him one morning and called the police as well as the manager of that Walgreens. I have to and called the police as well. Last week I got that manager involved again, too. She was almost in tears saying "we've called the police so many times, and he's just allowed to come back".

So.....I just don't go to Walgreens based on this store and another similar scenario at one of their stores in Lakeview. They have the power to do something. As long as the $ is rolling in, nothing will be done. Collectively, hit 'em where it hurts.

  16. I don't really care, I have repeated complained to various social workers about their scumbag clients and their eyes just light up with joyous celebration of fucktardism and they tell me that their clients are WONDERFUL PEOPLE AND HOW DARE I DISLIKE THEM OR NOT WANT THEM IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD.
I wonder if those bitches would like it if I plastered their flabby gut, cottage cheese ass bikini pics all over the 'net so everybody can see how gross they are.

  17. Trust me, learnthese fuckers whole name and look them up on Facebook, you will see rampant coalburning, their girlishly weak beardo weirdo boyfriends, saggy tits, etc. They are just as gross as their clients.

  18. I'm pessimistic about community, because I only care about myself!February 20, 2012 at 11:35 PM

I used to try and help these organizations with this budget cut program, but it became clear they don't want the underdog to stop being the underdog. They are content to have double or triple the current amount of people living in hovels and SROs, barely scraping by and going to their shitty protests wearing shitty t-shirts and being celibate for the rest of their lives.
Nobody wants mental illness to be cured or even treated better, they just want every part of Chicago to be like Uptown.
