VIDEO: Cyclist and car collide in South Loop
In a video dated November 22, 2011, a cyclist sustained minor injuries after his bike collided with a vehicle in Chicago's South Loop neighborhood.
A bicyclist traveling northbound on the 1100 block of South Canal Street struck a black Volkswagen Jetta on the west side of the Southgate Market shopping center.
The front end of the vehicle was protruding into the bike lane when the apparent accident occurred.
The impact of the collision flipped the bicyclist over his handlebars and onto the pavement. The biker said his injuries were minor and there were no broken bones.
The incident was captured by a camera that appeared to be mounted to the cyclist's helmet.

Seemed like the cyclist had time to move, but ran into the car instead. Seems suspicious considering he had a cam running before the accident...
ReplyDeletelooks like a scam or a staged accident
ReplyDeletesome of the bicyclists in this city are complete losers without a drivers licenses, whose predicament becomes a lifestyle and cause.....I particularly hate the balancing thing they do at stoplights, as it to say "hey look at me I'm a fucking idiot that can balance on two wheels" it's like a rite of passage or something, to balance without undoing your clips. I wont even begin to discuss the Montrose bird sancutary men's biker bukkake crowd - all done-up like they are going to a bike race on mars.
ReplyDelete"Cyclists" fault. He had plenty of time to react. This is fake. What is he video taping this for? Personally, if I were the driver I would have kicked his ass for hitting my car.
ReplyDeleteMontrose men's biker bukkake crowd. LOL. I always thought the "rite of passage" in this city was to get a BJ out in public. They talk about it here like it's just SUPPOSED to happen. First year here, I took my car out to the lake to give it a coat of polish for the winter and was propositioned at least 12 times in 2 hours. I mean, shit, if they had teeth or were over 5'6" and less than 200 lbs. and didn't step out of a '92 Jetta with no rear window and 4 different color doors it would be a start. And those speed racer wannabes on the LSD path with their $3,000 worth of gear - you can see the cellulite under those spandex. Throw in some Arab women in their "full gear" with their 3 baby buggys on the path while changing a diaper (in the dark).......this city REALLY is a hoot! Diversity. Shitcagostyle.
I'm a cyclist and as much as I hate to say it, I think this guy is scamming the VW people.
ReplyDeleteCalling bullshit. The cyclist had to have seen the VW starting to pull out of the spot at least 8 cars early. The passenger gets out of the car first with a smile on her face like she won the lotto. ghey
ReplyDeleteYeah, as a cyclist myself, something is fishy here. Not sure why the car didn't just finish pulling out, I didn't notice any other traffic. Second, the cyclist never seemed to slow down or take action. Which may have been why the car was stopped to let the cyclist go by. Also, weather you are in a car or on a bike, when the road is wet like that, it is just plain dangerous to be out.
ReplyDeleteNone of these comments (especially the desultory, rambling, hate-filled rants) alter the fact that the car pulled out of a parking space into the path of the oncoming cyclist riding in the bike lane and failed to yield the right of way. The driver is at fault. Maybe this kind of infringement happens so often that the cyclist felt wearing a helmet cam was the only way to unambiguously document the accident that was bound to eventually happen.
ReplyDeleteMost of you will also fail to realize this is the situation that the Kinzie bike lane is intended to ameliorate.
Fake as hell.
ReplyDeleteIt's not fake I have seen dude all the time on the same thing for the past five years tryna say some hi I just got out of jail I need a seven day like screw u dude so do I ..
