Police chase Rogers Park shoplifter, recover merchandise

Police recovered several items that were stolen from a North Side grocery store, but thief may still be at large.

Early Tuesday morning, around 12:51 a.m., a shoplifter stole several bottles of alcohol from the Rogers Park neighborhood Dominick's food store at 1763 West Howard Street, said police.

According to police dispatch, before authorities arrived at the scene, the thief fled the store through an exit at the rear of the supermarket.

The suspect was described as a thin male black in his 40s, about 5'6", with a goatee. He was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, jeans, and brown shoes.

While chasing the shoplifter along a set of nearby railroad tracks, police recovered four bottles of liquor.

Investigators said the offender jumped over a barbed wire fence, and may have injured his arm.

At the time of this report, there was no indication the suspect had been arrested.

  1. Whenever, I go to this Dominicks which is in my neighborhood I keep my eye on the black. They are usually only in this store to cause trouble. It is no wonder the security guards at this store follow the black when they are in the store.

  2. Well this just shot the "economy" theory to hell. You know, the excuse these ghetto thugs use for robbing, mugging and stealing? Doubt this ghetto thug was going to feed his children with the booze! Is is any wonder there is a "food desert" on the south side? Getting robbed blind comes to mind.
