Off-duty cop attacked, nearly robbed in Lakeview


Wednesday, June 15, 2011, an off-duty cop, identified as a University of Illinois at Chicago police officer, was assaulted during an attempted robbery in Chicago's Lakeview neighborhood.

The officer notified police around 11:18 p.m.

According to police dispatch, the UIC cop was attacked on the 3200 block of North Halsted Street near Belmont and Halsted.

Based on the officer's description of where the crime occurred, he was assaulted near the alley next to 3209 North Halsted Street.

The offenders were described at two black men.

One of the suspects implied he had a weapon, said the officer.

Both suspects fled the scene in a dark-colored Windstar minivan.

Police are investigating.

  1. Guess the police need more training in hand to hand combat if an off duty officer couldn't take down these two ghetto thugs. Doesn't look to good for the rest of us.

  2. T., for some odd reason, the officer reportedly waited until after he left the area, to report this crime. By then, the bad guys had plenty of time to escape.

  4. I work in Boystown, idk what it is about the night, it seems all the scum come out there after midnight. The sidewalks are filled with them, makes me feel like I'm on the south side of town.
