Crime on Gunnison Street in Uptown

Around 3:24 a.m., a cry for help broke the silence on a seemingly deserted Uptown street.

A 911 caller reported a man screaming for help on the 800 block of West Gunnison Street, near Sheridan and Gunnison, said police.

According to investigators, the incident occurred at 851 West Gunnison Street, in the middle of the block.

Based on conflicting reports, a Hispanic man in all black clothing, robbed or attempted to rob a male victim in front of the West Gunnison Street address.

The suspect ran eastbound on Gunnison, then southbound on Marine Drive towards Lawrence Avenue.

At approximately 3:55 a.m., a 911 caller on the 4700 block of Marine Drive, reported what sounded like footsteps on her roof.

As of 4 a.m., the suspect was still at large.

NOTE: Although the police never made a connection between the incident on Gunnison Street and the suspicious noise on Marine Drive, I have a feeling the 911 calls are related.

  1. Ghetto thugs, they're everywhere. I swear they're vampires 'cuz it seems they NEVER sleep during normal hours. Uptown, the new OK Corral. They have a new "sheriff" in the ward though, so hopefully Cappleman will get it in order.

  2. Add those to the recent shooting at Gunnison near Sheridan, and we have a problem worth attention. Just one more reminder to call 911 for any such incident. The more the police are aware of problems in the neighborhood, the more likely we are to see frequent patrols.

  3. But people on Yelp talk were arguing with me that Uptown ISN'T a warzone!

  4. I'm confused about the 4700 Marine drive address. That entire block is Weiss Hospital.

The call came from the small apartment building next to the BP gas station.
