Protesters arrested for dancing? Photo credit: jeffersondanceparty.info |
D.C. law enforcement is back in the spotlight.
After defying a court-ordered ban on protest at the Jefferson Memorial in Washington, D.C., several dancing protesters were arrested Saturday, May 28, 2011.
The participants in a relatively quiet flash mob, that danced without music, were taken into custody by the U.S. Park Service. The incident was caught on camera.
Critics of the police say the officers used excessive force and their actions were on the fringe of police brutality. However, the protesters' detractors say the flash mob was disrespectful of the historic site, broke the law, and deserved to be arrested.
In a video uploaded to Youtube, a U.S. Park Police officer is seen lifting a male protester in the air and body-slamming the man on the floor. The same officer aggressively shoved two men filming the arrests.
I realize these people broke the law but the cops look like fools arresting people for dancing. And that cop with the bike helmet looks like a loose cannon.
ReplyDeleteThose treehugging hippies got what thy deserved. They are too old to be acting like idiots in public and the law is the law!
ReplyDeleteWow! I'm not sure just what exactly they were hurting or what law they were breaking BUT here we go again with excessive force by cops..the cop with the bike helmut on is in need of some serious medication and what's with the cop with the white shirt on just standing there? Isn't he like a sergeant? This could have all been avoided had the "dancers" not persisted in antagonizing the cops and caused a scene. Still, slamming people to the ground, pushing other visiters who weren't involved and pushing a woman as well? Valiam comes to mind for the bike helmut cop...
ReplyDeleteThese flash mob protesters got what they deserved. As stated in the original post, they went against a court ordered ban. I don't care if they didn't hurt anyone...they broke the law!
ReplyDeleteCops are so stupid sometimes. I don't really think anyone besides the cops actually minded the protesters. What exactly was the point of arresting them even if they broke the law?
