Prediction: North Side crime will spike when 500 cops shift to South and West Sides

Look out, baby! Here it comes!

If you haven't already heard the news, I suggest you brace yourself.

Starting Sunday, May 29, 2011, just in time for Memorial Day weekend, an estimated 500 Chicago police officers will be forcibly reassigned to the Grand Crossing, South Chicago, Calumet, Auburn-Gresham, Englewood, and Chicago Lawn neighborhoods.

The officers, who work for the Mobile Strike Force and Targeted Response Unit, will be temporarily stationed in high crime areas for 90 days/three months.

Although some reports indicate that police superintendent Garry McCarthy is testing the effectiveness of the redistributed units, others say McCarthy ultimately intends to disband them.

In the past, the Mobile Strike Force has worked to reduce crime in areas like Uptown and Edgewater. But that is about to change. Possibly, for good.

On the flip side, officers who routinely work in Chicago's high crime areas, say they can use all the help they can get.

If this is Rahm Emanuel's way of putting more officers on the street, he is off to a dismal start!

  1. Northsiders and Downtowners... BEWARE!!! Our beloved decent side of the map will become a HOT BED for VIOLENCE!! If you own a vehicle (I don't), you may want to consider moving to Sauganash, Edgebrook, Forest Glen, Lincolnwood, or Skokie!! Because any other North Side neighborhood thats accessible to the Red Line... will be going DOWN HILL!!!

  2. What a bunch of crap! Who the hell pays more in taxes? Hint..it's not the south and west sides, so why are they always getting more cops than any other community? Whose fault is it that they have crime ridden neighborhoods? Here's another hint..it's theirs. If they would raise their children right, like teaching them respect for human life and community, teach them right from wrong and stop hiding behind locked doors so the ghetto thugs take over their streets, perhaps there wouldn't be a need for gangs. Perhaps crime would REALLY go down in this city. Here's a better suggestion, how about not having children you can't raise and than expect the city and it's tax payers to raise? How about ACTUALLY getting involved in your community by picking up the trash everywhere instead of waiting for the city to do it? How about contributing for a change...oh wait, it's easier to take hand outs and freebies than to ACTUALLY help to change your situation! It's easier to do the wah wah and cry racism to get what you want.

Thanks to Daley, Jackson & Sharpton screaming about the projects keeping the blacks segregated, they now are torn down and the ghetto thug element is now dispersed in EVERY neighborhood in the city. Now we have crime in EVERY neighborhood in the city. Brilliant move..NOT!

It's not my job to raise YOUR children. It's not the cities job to raise your children either. Here's a thought, how about not having any more children that you cannot possible raise, who then become the ghetto thugs of society? What a concept!

We All need the extra help now, since the ghetto thugs are EVERY where but hey, lets just put all the resources into the south & west sides and let the rest of the city go to hell. Nice move...NOT! If we don't get the resources, than why should our taxes be so high? I think a revolt is due!

  4. Once again the taxpayers in Chicago get treated like bald headed stepchildren while the leeches get special treatment. Why should I get a rat's ass about those neighborhoods when the scum that lives there couldn't care less about their own community!

  5. Skokie Swift,You Talk (write)too much crap about South Side,I wish I be there when Your daughter or some relative marry a guy from South Side(and he won't be Barack Obama).Learn to read and notice that there were shootings on the North Side also. Some day You will have to swallow you North Side Ego when You realize that Crime hapens anywhere.
Regarding moving cops to where they are needed,is the smartest idea Chicago Police can have to fight crime,to put Police where is most needed.

  6. Has anyone stopped to realize that perhaps a reason why the West and South sides get more police because more people living in those areas actually care and are involved. I'm not saying every community on the West and South sides are like this, but there are communities that do care. I have attended community meetings on the West side before and I have to say, the turnout to these meetings is much greater than some of these North side meetings. And also, there are more apathetic people on the North side who could care less about their community.

Also, the only communities I think on the North Side that actually deserve more CPD are places like Uptown, Rogers Park, Logan Square, Avondale, and other places further west on the North Side. I honestly don't think a neighborhood like Edgewater (ok, maybe a few parts do..), Lincoln Park or Lakeview need more officers. You've already got like what seems an army of them in Lincoln Park and surrounding areas heading towards the Loop.

  7. Fed Up With Blck CriminalsMay 24, 2011 at 7:51 PM

Avondale the same people who show up at those meetings on the west and south side are the same people who have drug dealers and gangmembers in their homes. The only time they want the police to help them is when a rival gangmember or someone outside their circle causes trouble. So to hell with them! They made their beds now lie in it!

  8. I agree whole heartedly with Fed Up!! The same people who attend those meetings are the same idiots who are quick to pull the race card, and not say a word to the police when there's a crime scene on THEIR block after some one was killed... again!

Until the "gimme gimme" compulsive freeloading residents learn how to raise their kids right and care for their own community... I say only continue to protect the North Side, Downtown, and East Hyde Park... THAT'S IT!!

  10. My condo is next to Sacred Heart Academy, there is a Chicago Police Officer there when the school lets out, sitting in his squad car, why is a member of the CPD protecting a private school?

Shortage of officers yet they send a officer to the school for what???? And why??
