Three people were arrested on the heels of a huge brawl at a Near North Side bar.
At 2:35 a.m., EMS workers requested police assistance after a man collapsed on the dance floor at the Boutique nightclub at 809 West Evergreen Avenue, near the intersection of Evergreen and Halsted.
Ten minutes later, at approximately 2:46 a.m., police dispatch announced that an estimated thirty people were fighting outside the bar. At one point, a 10-1, a police dispatch code indicating an officer needs immediate assistance, was aired over the police radio.
By 2:53 a.m., officers brought the chaotic situation under control and three men were arrested.
While researching the Boutique nightclub, I discovered the hip-hop bar used to be named the Dragon Room, and reportedly has ties to the controversial rapper, Kanye West.
According to one online source, a fellow named John Monopoly is the co-owner of Boutique and the C.E.O. of Kanye West's G.O.O.D. music label.

Can't the African- American culture EVER play nice? Kanye West is an angry black man and that's a dangerous combination. Rap music breeds hatred and really isn't music at all, it's someone talking to a beat. Is crime part of the current generations genes? WTF!
ReplyDeleteWhen dispatch announced that someone had passed out on the dance floor and the fire dept. wanted the police to assist them, I was a little puzzled.
ReplyDeleteNot anymore. :-)
towanda,
ReplyDeleteIronically, back in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, rock, heavy metal and punk rock were considered negative too. I still remember the 700 Club special about devil worship and backwards masking (i.e. GWAR).
Some rappers (i.e. Queen Latifah) are positive. :)
Rudy, in the beginning, a LOT of rap was positive. A lot of "songs" imparted wisdom and optimism. Gangster rap walked in, and "Satan" sat down.
ReplyDeleteTimothy, I agree.
ReplyDeleteSaw a kid get his head split open by security in there for trying to go up some stairs. WTF.
