At 1:23 a.m., a man was shot in the arm near the intersection of West Chicago and North Latrobe Avenues. The exact location of the shooting is 5235 West Chicago Avenue in Chicago’s Austin neighborhood.
An officer at the scene said the gunshot victim was in good condition, but his family members “were acting a fool”.
I could hear the commotion over the police radio, and "acting a fool" was really putting it mildly.
The officer told police dispatch three carloads of the victim’s friends and relatives were on their way to West Suburban Hospital in Oak Park, Illinois. The officer told dispatch to inform Oak Park police that trouble was headed their way.
He was right.
At 1:49 a.m., a physician at West Suburban Hospital called police, because his hospital was on “red alert” and he wanted to “press charges”.
The shooters were described as two African-American men. The suspects were seen standing on a nearby corner before the victim was shot.
I have not been able to confirm if any of the shooting victim's friends or family members were arrested at West Suburban Hospital.

If this was 1981 again, St. Anne's Hospital (4950 W. Thomas, near Division & Cicero) would be involved. By 1990, St. Anne's was sold to Bethel New Life, which converted the hospital to a senior living home.
ReplyDeleteLoretto Hospital (645 S. Central, near Central & Harrison, by Columbus Park) is the only remaining Austinite Hospital, which is too far for much of Austin and is busy with "South" Austin and Garfield Park.
Perhaps, West Suburban Hospital, in its' own way is saying "We are tired of the Austinite Thugs".
Rudy, thank you for adding that information. I thought there was or used to be a closer hospital than West Suburban, but I couldn't figure out what happened to it. Thank you! :-)
